Probably two-fold between Intel trying to clear inventory during the CPU line "refresh" and the fact that we're not too far from Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I'm holding off upgrading now & am hoping there will be some actual discounts on BF/CM this year, especially on mid/upper tier laptops.

Yeah, hoping the laptop in this post is somewhere around $425 for BF.

Or any 15.6 IPS i5/ryzen5 laptop.

+1 on the IPS/Ryzen/Touch screen thought.

BTW, when I hear 'Cometlake', I visualize a freshly-cleaned toilet bowl that's been scrubbed with Comet. Sometimes a vivid imagination is a bad thing.

touchscreen is not necessary for me.

But yes, cometlake does sound like a clean toilet

Stream < Pavillion < Envy < Spectre

With each iteration you also get a bump in the raw specs. The Envy is basically a better build quality Pavillion, sometimes along with an NVMe instead of Sata M.2 solid state and the spectre usually has extra features like an OLED panel.

Between Stream and Pavilion, there is another series, just called HP, like HP 14 or HP 15. They're equivalent to Dell Inspiron 3000 series.
However, they spec bump is not entirely correct as a lot of Pavilion come with same hardware spec including nvme SSD. The difference mainly in build quality, durability, battery life and screen quality.

I remember this same laptop was on sale last year from Microsoft Store. The biggest problem with the laptop was the pale colored screen. There was also a big thread for this here in slickdeals along with calibrations to make the screen whiter. I got my laptop changed thrice and all three of them had the same problem. The same laptop however in a 14" form factor did not have this issue though . Hopefully they have resolved the issue by now.
