I was just at Home Depot to pick up a radon detector, planning to get it for $180. It wasn't on the shelf where it's supposed to be, so an employee looked it up on his device and directed me to the plumbing/pvc aisle. There I found a display of them marked down to $99.

I actually had random in my house. Found out at appraisal time for move pkg. If you live in wv md, va, please consider purchasing this. Pisses me off to think $100 (or even 200) so many lives could be saved! Hard to imagine our builder didn't know.

The builder could know if they tested each home. Radon is tricky, your house could be fine but your neighbor next door could have a huge Radon issue. Isn't really a construction deficit, it depends a lot on what's underneath your home. Though I would argue that a cheap and effective passive Radon mitigation system should required for each new home built, and it would be pretty cheap to upgrade to an active system by just adding a fan. This being said, I own this detector, and it's very good and accurate.

I have this exact detector. It works great and I'm still on the first set of batteries 3 years later

Radon. What a scam. Turns out exposure levels are based on mining operations. No actual cases of proven lung cancer from radon. And it appears at least up to certain exposure levels it prevents lung cancer. Look it up!

I know an entire family that was devastated by radon. The two parents and one son are dead, another son and daughter both have cancer. The dead ones bedrooms were on the 1st floor and the other two were on the second floor. There is zero doubt it was caused by Radon, because this happened to this family within a few years of moving into a new house built on the cliff of an old quarry. Once they got sick they were tested for everything and came back with incredibly high radon levels in everything in their bodies... blood, urine, bones, and cell tissue. The two that are not dead had bedrooms on the second floor and had much lower exposure and lower levels in their blood. PM me if you would like to speak with them and hear about their life.
