3700u throttling is a problem out there, perhaps not here.

How do you get EPP? It's coming out to $500 for me. Guessing the extra $10 off is EPP?

Does anyone think the price will drop a bit more during BF? I don't need one now but would like to get one for my parents.

This cpu / laptop like other amd powered "laptop cpu's" are a joke! they throttle heavily under stress, such as when you are compressing video using h.265. Search for the word "throttling" in the article under stress test!

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Del...556.0.html

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comm...hrottling/

I bought a ryzen 5 2500u on bf from walmart and returned it because it throttles so bad that it underperformed even an i3!! Whenever people mention amd laptops, you guys must talk about if the cpu will throttle under the particular laptop . Different venders impliment the throttling differently. I'm just sick and tired of this sham. just google ryzen laptop cpu throttle.. i stress that this is a laptop type issue, not desktop. To be fair, intel's laptop cpu also may throttle just as much. It depends on the cpu in combination with the particular laptop model. If the vendors want to throttle the cpu by preventing the fan from going full speed, then the laptop will throttle! I'm just trying to make sure that people know about these issues. Yes, there are some software hacks you can do to fix the throttle by somehow hacking the bios... but I'm not sure if that' safe to do for all cases. Yes, this is about modifying the bios with a 3rd party open source app...so it's a real hack! apple laptops also throttled until they fixed it by allowing the fan to go full speed...then people complain about noise. I rather that the company gives users two option.. to throttle or not to throttle in the bios settings instead of forcing a fan and also voltage limitation on the cpu!

I think it must be mandatory that people talk about the fan and voltage throttle issue on every slickdeals. Cool

The link is given in the first page.
Also, did you even read the review you linked here? I've provided the Notebookcheck.net review in the 2nd post and as per them it's one of the best implementation for Ryzen APU. Check before you post...waste of so many words.

You do realize that is more on the OEM's, right? Proper cooling should address it quite easily.

As said this is a new laptop. The older laptops with the 2000 series CPUs did have throttling issues in some cases but this one seems to work well based on verified reviews.

Great system overall. Even has 2 memory slots to upgrade the memory. Many in this price range have 4gb on the board that can't be upgraded.

Currently Lenovo has the best implementation for Ryzen 3000 series and HP has the worst. Their previous 2000 series did throttle but looks like they're catching up.
The best Ryzen APU performance is currently in Thinkpad E495 and E595 which beat even high end T series Intel models in terms of CPU performance.

Did YOU actually read the review?? I did. And it said it throttles! You guys got suckered. Here, let me quote it for you:

"We stress the system to identify for any potential throttling or stability issues. When running Prime95, the CPU will spike up to 3.3 GHz for the first few seconds before dropping to 2.8 GHz in order to maintain a core temperature of 88 C. After about 10 minutes, however, clock rates continue to fall to 2.5 GHz for a slightly cooler core temperature of 82 C. This behavior mirrors our CineBench loop test above where performance drops at a relatively steady rate over time.
When running both Prime95 and FurMark, core temperature stabilizes at 73 C with a CPU clock in the 1.4 to 1.6 GHz range. Since the base clock rate of the CPU is 2.3 GHz, the CPU will throttle if fully stressed."

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Del...556.0.html

going from 3.3 GHz to 1.4 Ghz is a HUGE deal breaker!!! MadEEK!

thank goodness I didn't pull the trigger.

Unfortunately, you don't understand. Try prime95 for 10 to 15 minutes and you'll see the throttle per the review. I read it, and that's what it said. From 3.3 Ghz to 1.4 Ghz. See my previous post. I think the only way around it is to have more heat pipes and a more powerful fan and or case. If I'm going to get a laptop for performance, it'll be one of those thick laptops.... and even then, I would need someone to test the throttle issue for 10 to 15 minutes using prime95.

I do understand. Crap OEM fan profiles and crap cooling. Not the fault of the silicon whatsoever.
