That's so bs! I run Handbrake using software H265 and it throttles horribly.
Dude... You do realize that 8th gen can encode HEVC via hardware (QS), instead of software? I don't know about i3s, but i5/7 can accelerate H265 for output.

I recently got this one back in the summer when it was $500. A lot about it is good, and maybe I just got a bad one, but the thermal performance has been pretty bad, getting to 70+ when doing nothing fairly often. I got this to be a more office like laptop but it sucks having the fans ramping up during a meeting. Also, sometimes it doesn't wake up from sleep and I have to do a force shut down and then restart it. Probably going to get a replacement soon as I bought a warranty, but like I said, hopefully the one I got was just bad, because when it runs the way it should, it's amazing and everything I wanted at such a good price!

It charges via Type C ports as well. So, if you have a 45 watt or higher capacity Type C power delivery charger, you can use that. With 65 watt charger, it actually charges first.
No type C, it's a 3 year old I7-6500u model.

For the last two generations, I did not hear any issue with the barrel pin charging port. BTW, I was referring to this laptop about Type-C Charging.

Will you consider the one from Costco? How does it compare to this one?

I purposefully encode via software because the file size is significantly smaller. I do this everyday.

Sadly, a higher series engineering laptop from Dell I have at work started with this nonsense yesterday. The battery drained while plugged in, and it kept running with the battery at 0% clearly indicating the charger is supplying the necessary power. Tried other 130 watt power bricks, same deal.

I have had zero confidence in Dell in recent years, and repeated design flaws like this only cement that reputation.

I bought this laptop two days ago. I cannot find any laptop that has a USB C port with charging/DisplayPort for a cheaper price.

I noticed this keyboard doesn't have a number pad. So I got buyer's remorse. Ended up buying the Asus laptop refurb from eBay

This cpu / laptop like other amd powered "laptop cpu's" are a joke! they throttle heavily under stress, such as when you are compressing video using h.265. Search for the word "throttling" in the article under stress test!

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Del...556.0.html

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comm...hrottling/

I bought a ryzen 5 2500u on bf from walmart and returned it because it throttles so bad that it underperformed even an i3!! Whenever people mention amd laptops, you guys must talk about if the cpu will throttle under the particular laptop . Different venders impliment the throttling differently. I'm just sick and tired of this sham. just google ryzen laptop cpu throttle.. i stress that this is a laptop type issue, not desktop. To be fair, intel's laptop cpu also may throttle just as much. It depends on the cpu in combination with the particular laptop model. If the vendors want to throttle the cpu by preventing the fan from going full speed, then the laptop will throttle! I'm just trying to make sure that people know about these issues. Yes, there are some software hacks you can do to fix the throttle by somehow hacking the bios... but I'm not sure if that' safe to do for all cases. Yes, this is about modifying the bios with a 3rd party open source app...so it's a real hack! apple laptops also throttled until they fixed it by allowing the fan to go full speed...then people complain about noise. I rather that the company gives users two option.. to throttle or not to throttle in the bios settings instead of forcing a fan and also voltage limitation on the cpu!

I think it must be mandatory that people talk about the fan and voltage throttle issue on every slickdeals. Cool
How about RyzenAdj?
