I wonder how many of those negative reviews are due to people having too little of a compressor and/or too small of hoses/fittings to feed the impact enough air rather than the tool itself not being up to snuff.

couldn't pass on this as i found out i had sears cash to use which just sweetened this deal...reviews are mostly positive...if it doesn't preform send it back

I have a three gallon air compressor being used mainly to air up tires. Is it capable of operating this impact?

3 gallons is just the reserve capacity, what you really need to know is the cubic feet per minute (cfm) of your compressor. But 3 gallons of reserve is pretty small for a compressor, so I highly doubt that it has the 6.5 cfm at 90 psi that this impact requires.

400 ft/lbs of torque - this is an $45 air impact, just get one from HF for $35 with more torque

My Craftsman 3 Gal Oil Lube Compressor only has 2.4 SCFM @ 90 PSI.
