Im a home builder and own over 20 rental houses. I will only install Waste Kings now after having some many leaking problems with Insinkerators. I have brought over 20 Waste Kings frm Amazon and not have had one fail in almost 7-8 years since Ive started using them

Would the 1hp for main sink and 1/2hp for a prep sink be a sound plan? I'm redoing my own kitchen myself and will need two of these but don't know how to spec them if there's two in your kitchen.
You could probably get away with 1/2HP for the prep sink but I say spend a bit more for the 1HP because I love mine. Nothing is a problem and I just don't have to worry about it, throw everything in there.

The cheapo Badger disposals made by insinkerator break mostly due to a rusting out of the disposal bowl. That said all the insinkerator disposals I have had that came with a stainless steel bowls have never broke on me. The problem I have with Waste King disposals is that the bowl opening is much smaller than the insinkerators, which prevents me from putting my hand inside. Some ungrindable shit it always going to fall inside and you will need to fish it out.

Insinkerators also come with a reuseable flange so replacing a broken insinkerator with another insinkerator is much easier since you don't have to rip out the flange, and replace the flange with a new one reseating/recaulking/plumber's putty/etc. The ease of replacement could be worth the price premium. All Insinkerators use the same flange so going from a cheapo badger 3 to a top of the line Insinkerator is an equal job.

Big take away, if you plan on owning the disposal more than a couple years make sure it's got a stainless steel bowl.

I'm installing a new farmhouse sink in our house and am going to need a garbage disposal and was just going to go to the local Menards and get one, is there anything special about this particular brand?
If you must buy from Menards, I suggest you compare to Home Depot. I saved $65 by price matching a HD disposal I bought last month at Menards.

I just replaced a 1/2 HP Insinkerator.
The seal broke, and it leaked under my sink, down onto and beneath the hardwood.
MOLD.
Probably had been leaking for 2 days.

I do not know how old the unit was (at least 9 years old), but I did not know garbage disposals could leak due to bad seals! Never had one leak on me before.

I replaced the same (Insinkerator Badger 5) from Amazon...$94
It was an easy install as it was a swap, so the mount was the same as before.

What are your thoughts in the Costco one? They only have the one model there. It a 1 horse I believe. Had it installed a few weeks ago. No issues. My family is small and we dont dump grease and oil in the sink and bones always go in the trash.

It's a family that comes over to your house every night after dinner and eats your leftover samples.

InSinkerator is made to fail on average about 3-5 years due to corrosion inside. I switched to Waste King probably 10 years ago and never looked back. InSinkerator sells more disposals like McDs sells more burgers; doesn't make 'em better though.

I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel and will need a new garbage disposal. This seems like a good price however a lot of the reviews didn't like the EZ mount system. Is it better to go to 3 bolt mount?

Only of you want it to last more than a year.
