Thank you. Awesome rate. Unfrotunately, we need something in mid-December and nothing then obviously due to the holidays.

Pretty huge state, but within an hour of Charlotte you get into amazing wilderness areas of western NC. Highest mountains east of the Rockies. Apart from that, Charlotte is incredibly clean and nice for a larger city, you can stay busy for a day or two there, easily. Atlanta is about 3 hours, Raleigh/Durham about 2 hours...both doable as long daytrips. But staying in CLT you can rely on taxis/Uber.

Carowinds amusement park, plus the US whitewater center are both nearby, too.

We get a lot of people here in Western NC (Appalachia) as the colors change. Clingmans dome is pretty cool, also tail of the dragon. Blue ridge parkway as well. Its turbo season and my GTI is loving it. laugh out loud

You can also drive a few hours to ATL to see the World Of Coke and try Beverly.

Its worth checking out Western NC, Charlotte and Atlanta GA at least once if you can.

Double check your math. The Black Hills in South Dakota are the highest mountains east of Rockies.

Mount Mitchell (elevation 6,684 ft.) is the highest point east of the Mississippi River!

Fair point. There is a whole "tallest" vs "highest" debate in mountaineering. I'm talking sheet elevation change from base to top....not absolute elevation above sea level. Another term is "prominence".

Several peaks in the Smokies and Blue Ridge are over a vertical mile from trailhead to peak, which is pretty impressive in this part of the country.
