No it has a filter and everything. Just get a floating chlorinator. We have one used 4 seasons now. I drain and dry it and use a half dozen boxes of corn starch in between folds and toss it in the tote every winter. Only replacing it because the kids put gravel in the sand bed and the liner has a few leaks.

Warning: this is a gateway pool. May lead to larger and larger pools in the future.

This is a solid deal on a nice, low commitment pool. I'd like to echo the comments about ditching the included pump and filter in favor of a sand filter. I'd also encourage you to go with a saltwater system for chlorination if you're worried about keeping up with it. Using a floating chlorinator over the course of several months can really mess up your CYA levels and give you problems. Obviously these additions will add substantially to your initial investment, but they're well worth it as long as you plan on owning a pool for more than one season. And this is coming from a cheapskate.

Here's the pump/filter and saltwater chlorine generator that has worked well for me with my 20' Intex pool:

I bought one and it turned into a swamp, so probably. I don't have the knowledge or skill to keep this pool algae free and that pump does nothing. You need to make sure the ground is level and nothing is underneath. You need to replace filters frequently and that can get pricey. When I got mine, people were commenting they buy and use a better pump for the pool. Do that. Other than my inability to maintain this thing with a few hundred dollars of pool chemicals, the one I got was solid construction and I had no problems with the actual pool itself. N41 anyway. My bf is about to be SO pissed!

Had it for one summer. No issues. Use a sand filter, the paper cartridge ones are for masochist's.
That's a good idea about the corn starch.
Also, I don't think they make sand filter that specifically fit this. Requires adapters. There are a lot of forums and you tube videos about it.

Sand filter - 102$ when I got it, had to get some pvc parts at Home Depot and some Hayward adapters.
The $20 intex skimmer works although when I use it I have to block one of the intakes or the suction is not enough and skimmer socks are like $10

Make sure you open box and check everything, don't wait till the next year like I did. I received a very used pool with duct tape around the base and leaves in the filter. Was out 45 dollars.

I've never had a problem with our little filter that came with it 4 years ago. It runs constantly and I rinse the paper filter with the spray nozzle in the sink. A chlorinator is like $10 maybe and it might cost $20 in chlorine per summer?

We've been using this for a few summers as well. While I never tried the filter it came with (Many reviews I read on the filter were not that positive), I bought a more powerful sand filter which has been great.

Great size for kids under age 6 who aren't very good swimmers yet. I like to relax in there as well. Like someone else mentioned, just make sure the ground is level wherever you are putting it.
