You didn't have this model for 7 months. It was released in June.

First of all, nobody is rooting a FireTV. It's not necessary. Installing Kodi does not require root. All you have to do is change one of the settings to allow apps from unknown sources, install an app that supports direct downloading files, and then download the apk.

Secondly, the point of Raspberry Pi is to be sort of a blank canvas. It's a barebones all-in-one inexpensive hardware platform that is based on open source architecture. It can be used for whatever you want, within its physical limitations. It can be used for DIY smart home controls, robotics, video game emulation, media playback, network routing, network security, etc.

It's already sold out on their site, but eBay has it for $49.99. Not the best deal, but not bad either if you got eBay bucks to kill and don't mind the 2gb version

This is a good deal on the case it comes with. A pi4 2GB is around $45 at other sellers. Not sure if the other sellers offer free shipping or not so that's something to consider as well.

Thanks OP. Just purchased one. Funny thing was I just ordered a pi 3b+ from Amazon, same vendor, hours before hand.

Great thing buying direct was no tax. So my 3b+ actually cost more than this 4b

They run Kodi better than any other device on the market while having enough computing power left over to run Home Assistant in the background.

Not to mention, they use a lot less electricity than a dedicated smart home hub.

I read Pi4 needs extra cooling or it throttles due to overheating.
