Heads up for anyone considering this older model vs the upcoming 6 series REFRESH from TCL.

The major difference between the Old and Refresh are the following:

Quantum Dot: Quantum color filter has a higher RGB purity, this leads to improved gamut and more color precision.

Quantum dot also dumps energy faster than the previous PFS phosphor, leading to slightly better motion clarity. (this will only matter for gaming, not movies)

Higher peak brightness, More led zones. (This isn't that useful, IMHO, the limitation is VA's contrast ratio, and dimming zones just create light halos.

At 420 you get an awful lot of value, near 6k contrast, local dimming, over 1k peak brightness, sick color gamut after calibration, Dolby vision and atmos, 4:4:4 with 6ms response time so great as a monitor and gaming, very nice Roku interface... The list goes on...
But unless you are into BDSM don't but refurbished, just get a new one and Basque in the glory of a sub $500 TV which gets real close to QLED quality

A Moor thorough analysis couldn't be made. Better get one of these TV's before they're Alaghon.

I guess the question is if the 2019 are really worth the ~$190 dollar difference.... which equates to ~45% more. I don't know if you can get Dolby Vision and atmos for any cheaper than this.....

Does that mean the in-store price will be the same? I don't want to deal with shipping, I just tried the refurbished 55" 6-series from Walmart...never again. Two broken TV's barely any packaging to protect then, and you can't return them to the store. Huge pain in the ass

Just a psa these are the 2018 models, I would definitely recommend waiting for the 2019 models. E.g. 65r625

All that you mentioned, and the one posted, are the 2018 TCL 6 series.

Sometimes different stores sell the same model as a different model number. In the case of the 615/617, the remote is different, but that is it. Same TV. The 613 (OP) is the same TV as the 615 and 617. If there is a difference (which I have not been able to find), I would assume it would be the remote. In either case, I would just get this set from Costco, and add the $50 squaretrade warranty to it. Costco already gives you a better warranty and return policy than BestBuy, and its cheaper, so that would be a no brainer for me.

I have the 55r615 I purchased last year for $500 when it was on sale, and it is a fantastic set. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, I use it daily. It may be cheaper during black Friday, probably not by much though. I believe last years 5 series during BF was $389 at its cheapest, so I would think this would be around the same price.

Depends on your needs and configuration. This is a great price point and hard to pass up.
