Just got back from two weeks on the Big Island, and it was wonderful. Had a mix of everything. Tropical rainforest, volcanic devastation, sandy beaches, rocky beaches, feeling like you're at the end of the earth, etc. Only thing I've found to be lacking about visiting Hawaii is local food. Fresh fruit from a farmer's market or roadside stall is probably the best in the country, but I usually cook most of our own meals to save a few bucks and let us stay in a nicer location.

I booked a fare on the last united deal from ATL. By the time I did seat selection it changed the ticket class to G for $60 more per ticket. I'm pretty sure that includes a carryon bag and a backpack/personal item. Check different ticket combinations of you don't have a United or travel credit card to get baggage comped. BE doesn't include a carry on.
