If the back cover is opened by the consumer for any reason (upgrade or replace a part) LG voids the warranty. Confirmed by 2 CSRs. Just an FYI!

Be warned all programmers:

The '/ or |' key is half the size of a regular key. You will always miss the button somehow. Good luck with writing code with that keyboard.

DO NOT BUY IF YOU EVER WANT TO REASONABLY USE THE \ OR | KEY!!!

Amazing laptop and deal.

That warranty voiding is BS if true though. Upgrading the hard drive is a must. How would they know?

When you'd send it back in for warranty it wouldn't have the original hard drive part number they put in, so that's one way that they would know.

Right. But if I swapped the original back to the first slot and removed the new drive I put in there?

I asked why they put in a second hard drive if it can't be upgraded without affecting the warranty and they said that it was just their policy.

It appears that the voiding of the warranty may be illegal? https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/p...y-coverage

I'm sure they're clearing out old stock. I purchased this laptop when it was on back order and I received a newer model 17Z990-R.AAS9U1. I don't see it anywhere online. I never even realized it until I went to install my Samsung 970 EVO. This updated model came with a 512GB Samsung 951 NVME SSD. Needless to say I'm pleasantly surprised and glad that I waited. Regarding that warranty denial, don't worry, even if some CSR states it as policy, it's unenforceable if illegal. I'm not a fan of the keyboard either and I wish that they left the number keypad off. Key travel is good and the track pad is responsive so it's not a major issue. Overall I love this laptop. The weight is impressive, the screen is excellent, battery life is exceptional, and the overall speed is very good. I don't miss the touch screen as I never use it much on my Thinkpad. As I mentioned earlier I added the Samsung 970 EVO and upgraded to WIN 10 Pro. I can't think of a better mix of performance / portability at any price.

Yes, that 512GB NVMe SSD is listed for the current model online, but the model number is C9U1 rather than S9U1 that craigg mentions: https://www.costco.com/LG-Gram-17...12120.html

It's the \ and | key that are small. It doesn't bother me too much. Given the choice to work on this laptop or my work assigned 15" Zbook, I'd pick the LG Gram everytime. The weight savings is amazing here.

LG has to be out of its mind to design the keyboard with reduced size "/" or '|" keys. Thanks for the warning.
