Why is the 8 series rated better?

The main difference between L-8000 and L-9980 is the mounting system. The L-8000 uses EZ mount system which makes installation easier and faster while the L-9980 uses a 3-bolt mounting system. ... Also, the splash guard on L-8000 is easily removable for cleaning while that of the L-9980 is not.

It's not the same as this one, the one at Costco is an American Standard

I have the same one. No issues with anything I've thrown down it. Maybe you have a bad unit.

One time it was $100...only a real cheap ass would wait for that again, but this is SD after all so I wouldn't be surprised..... When else was it cheaper and how much?

You aren't really supposed to put bones down a GD anyway. They're harder on all the parts, can jam the unit, and have pointy bits that can catch on stuff on the way down. Toss them in the trash.

This garbage disposal is a "Waste" of time. It has trouble with basic scraps and clogs real easy. The mounting system is also ass backwards when compared to badger and requires everything to be redone and refit to the sink. The only advantage to this junker is that it comes with the electrical cord built. This is the type of appliance you buy in a pinch or right before you sell your house. Not good for long term use

Couldn't disagree with you more.

I installed one of these in 2013 and lived in the house for 5 more years then sold it.

Just installed another one in my current house from the amazon deal and it destroys everything I put in it.

It has a 20 year warranty so I'm not really worried if it does break in the next few years or 10.

I find the opposite to be the case. It's so sharp that it pulverizes most bones I've tried. However it seems to cause way way more backups in my piping than I've ever had. Silly things like spaghetti have clogged my drain pipe. You have to feed it so slowly to avoid that. Whereas my old 1980s Kenmore that it replaced smashed everything to smithereens and never had a problem with clogs.
