Bern Caper Bike Helmet on sale for 50% off at REI for $39.93, regular price is $80.00

This is a custom model only sold at REI with some nice features including the magnetic one hand clasp and the ability to mount a light on the rear of the helmet.

Right now all colors and sizes are in stock.

Shipping is free if you add $50 to your cart. Also it is eligible for store pick up.

Seemed like a great deal and I tried one on at my local REI this week and it was a nice upgrade from my old helmet....

In for one for my girlfriend and I. Unfortunately the grey medium shows limited availability but keeps getting canceled from my cart, sold out. Getting two blues so now we'll match but didn't want to haha

Nice find, OP! Also, it is worth noting that REI currently has a promotion for a free $20 bonus card if spending over $100 by October 14, 2019. Therefore, if you pick up two of these helmets ($40 each) and a Yeti tumbler (reduced to $20), you quality for the $20 bonus card which is valid Oct-18 thru Oct-28.

Near the same price range (about $50 for various colors on Amazon), I would consider the Bell Stoker over this. The straps and adjustment are probably nicer on the Bell as well.

mips basically means helmet will rotate a few mm when you crash. As someone who has been in some bad crashes there is enough slack in your straps to do the same so mips is mostly marketing and you're better off getting a helmet that passed the Australia standard AS/NZS 2063.

Here's an independent testing and a similar Bern winter helmet is rated second lowest in safety.
