It is. Particularly with Costco's two year warranty and another 1-2 years depending on the credit card you use. (Chase or Costco Citi Visa). Most of these gaming laptops have heating issues so 3-4 years of warranty is a great feature.

Picked one of these up. So far, so good. Plays Castle Wolfenstein:New Order on ultra mode just fine (didn't play more than the first chapter, however). Some of the Lenova ad-ware is annoying, but not to hard to remove, and doesn't look excessive. Build quality seems to be good.

$1k is a lot to pay for a laptop. But the specs make it a good buy for the price.

Just bought this yesterday, went through the Windows user setup, turned it off, and it never turned back on. Gonna exchange for another one.

I had a y545 and the thermals were absolutely awful. It would thermally throttle virtually immediately in every circumstance. Dave 2D did a great comparison on why they're so different and also brought up some good points about poor hinge design.

Microcenter has a 17.3" y540 on sale for $150 more, I got an open box one for $1100 flat. Besides the bigger screen that's still a 144hz panel, you get an RTX 2060 vs a 1660ti, free modern warfare with it, and much much better heat management and therefore much better performance.

I don't think laptop warranties are extended with credit cards. One of the few items that's excluded...

Interesting. Their webpage and even benefits disclosure don't mention that, but they don't explicitly allow it either. I may call them and ask, but even then I feel like it would have to be in writing.

I was thinking about going with one of those open box deals on this y540 laptop, how was it? was it basically new and the box was opened or what?

Maybe the fault is limited to the specific device?
