Why is this labeled Walmart?

Just tried to play Battle Isle 2200 and can't get past the selection screen... I used to play that game for hours when I was little.

This is an unreal treasure trove. I've been here before too, but it's been a couple of years.

I too remember the autoexec.bat and config.sys. And using edlin to make changes before edit was included in dos, ugh.

I could never afford any of these games so I only had a few while my friends would talk about the rest. Now I can catch up, lol.

Goes searching for Commander Keen...

Found Commander Keen! And if you exit to dos on Keen 3, you can run some classic dos commands like dir, cd, ver in dosbox. Big Grin

gog.com is currently making a pretty good profit licensing, packaging for modern PCs (win, mac, & linux), and selling DRM free versions of lots of games from this era. so, my guess is there are some people that are worried about stuff this old.
I guess that's like the ebooks on Amazon that are for books in the public domain.

Commander keen!
Yep and they've got more than one too!

I tried playing it for a bit, but then remembered how hard it was to get the timing of the keystrokes just right. It was tougher to play stuff back then, that's for sure...either that or I'm getting old. vomit

You are getting old but that's not the reason, games in the past are harder. Players often have limited chances and lives to pass levels, now many games are more dumb down for easier.quick play.

Hey! I don't resemble that remark! You're only as old as the women you can pick up...so I've heard, lol.

Yeah, you had to start over a lot if you wanted to finish a game. It is a lot more frustrating if you're used to anything easier, that's for sure.

But the satisfaction when you do finish the level and finally the game. That is priceless. It's what I like about the past games.

Yeah, I think there was a lot more of that for sure. It took a lot of time and dedication to finish a game.

Don't forget to use "dir /p" to print directories that fit in one page and not all at the same time. I think it was enter or space to go to next page.
