Costco has their version of the AX8 WIFI 6 router on sale for for $199 final price. This unit is a slightly different from the AX8 sold at Amazon and Bestbuy, but it seems to be pretty much the same. This was 5 thumbs up at $220-230 recently.

Mixed bag of reviews. One owner said his Asus AC68 was 20% faster. Others say it drops the signal. With households having 25+ devices. It would be nice to find a solid router under $200 that reaches all rooms with both bands. Mesh is great but rarely offers 3 hubs at this price point.

Wondering how this compares to R7000 (AC1900). I have LOTS of devices (smart bulbs, switches, laptops, etc) and thinking the faster processor might be better, but not sure on antenna range... etc

Here is the deal with Costco routers, as well as Samsclub...
They sell "off" versions of routers. What I mean by that is they order a specific version and ask the manufacturer to do something unique to it and change the model number by 1 digit.
#1 reason they do that is so they don't have to compete on price matching.
The downfall of that is that these routers with specific weird model number receive barely any updates at all and are generally left unsupported.

Considering how fast exploits come out for routers, you want to buy the mainstream models, I.E. the models that everyone carries and not these "special" versions.

Sometimes you can flash the mainstream version firmware onto their "special" versions thereby converting them to normal routers, but that is rare and you shouldn't rely on that.

It is a broadcom router meaning that support for it will come from countries outside the US copyright law, such as Poland, or Germany. You are not going to find third party firmware from inside the US anytime soon.

I've had this router for several months and have been really happy with it. I tried a few other solutions, including Google WiFi w/ 3 nodes and a mesh network using a couple ASUS routers. I've found this single router to give me better range and speeds with ~25 devices connected. For reference, I have 500/500 fiber and consistently get above 200 in both our backyard/front yard. 2100 sq ft home.

I've had this router for four months and love it. I haven't had issues with devices connecting or getting dropped. It has been very stable for me and has great range in my house. My previous router had a weak signal in rooms on the edge of the house. Now I have a strong signal throughout and it even extends a bit outside. I have 20 devices connected to it and have been very happy. This price is nearly $100 less than what I paid for it.

My fios modem is at the front corner of my basement. Do you think this router can reach the top floor at the other end of the house for a 2 story house plus basement? It is 1200sq feet for the 1st 2 floors.

Keep the SSIDs the same on the new router and it should be very minimal effort to change to a new router.

No one else has it for $199. Bestbuy and other places are $399 regular on sale for $299.

Oh, I see it's the 8 not the 4. Thanks. Then that's a spectacular deal.

not true. I hard code certain ethernet addresses to specific IPs. often times those addresses don't properly resolve a name, so you need to keep a screenshot/list of them and then manually redo it.... PITA!

My WRT3200 wifi is reduced when I close bedroom doors, will this go thru doors? IMO, Wifi 6 is a gimmick to jack up prices for noobs! Where are all the reviews???
