I've been watching this one for a bit and this is the lowest I've seen in some time, second all-time lowest for a really great color laser printer.

Something to be aware of — This is not a laser printer, but rather an LED printer. If you see specifications for this printer on Brother's website, it clear states the technology as 'color LED'. On the website, Brother sells them under the combined category of 'Laser/LED'. A quick google search on this printer will confirm that via tech articles on this printer.

The difference between laser and LED printers is supposed to be subtle, but generally laser printers will provide better image quality. LED printers are supposed to take up less room and are cheaper to manufacture.

I've read some reviews in the past for other Brother LED printers, stating that colors were muted when compared to competitors' laser printers. I haven't read the reviews of this printer, so can't be sure. In general, I like Brother's build quality (personally I think they have the best build quality), but their firmware/software can be problematic at times.

Unless you need to print high quality photos, not document photo, I will go for laser printer.

If you don't print enough, you should actually go for laser printer, it works even after years of collecting dust. Inkjet you will have all sort of problem with the ink and printer head if you don't use it once a while.

How does this compare to the Costco HP m281 cdw that goes on sale to 279 once in a while.

How's this compare to the Canon Color imageCLASS MF644Cdw? I've been debating between Brother and Canon color all-in-one. The Canon has duplex scanning which seemed like a good feature to have.

I think the ink replacement (generic) are cheaper than the HP printer.

I'm curious about this as well. Brief glance on eBay showed maybe $55 but I'm not sure on the quality of those.

That's true. But I don't print enough that toner costs are a deciding factor. I want to know about differences in features and quality.

I was having alert for both Canon and Brothers, and bought Canon from Staples a few weeks ago when it's $275 - $50 trade in (before my wife taking an dust-collecting ink-jet to donate)
Feature-wise should be the same, so not sure which one is better.

The other printer I am comparing it to is a laser. I was asking for differences between the HP(m281 cdw) and this one.

I'm in the market for one too. By specs alone, it seems like the Brother is better.

-HP scans up to 300-1200 dpi, Brother scans from 1200-2400 dpi.
-HP prints up to 600x600 dpi, Brother prints up to 600 x 2400 dpi.
-HPprints 22 pm. Brother pints 25 pm.
-HP has 2.7 inch screen, Brother has 3.7 inch screen.

The Brother is also aesthetically more pleasing.
