What are the differences between the Canon MF-733 and MF-743 Multifunction Laser Printers?

I got a phenomenal deal on a Canon MF-733 multifunction laser printer a few months ago and I love it. Just after I got the printer, Canon released the MF-743. I have been trying to find differences between the two printers, and all I see is that the 743 has a whisker faster startup time to first printed page, weighs about 10 lbs. more than the 733, even though the form factors are identical, and uses new, chipped, crazy expensive toner cartridges. Even the few bootlegs are crazy expensive. Meanwhile, I got a full 733 high capacity CMYK bootleg set for $47 at Amazon that prints just about as well as the OEM carts.

Is this one of those rare cases where the older model is superior to the successor, or am I missing anything? Thanks for any info, just curious about this.

According to Amazon reviews, very little difference.

Certainly not worth paying more for. Newer models are not always better than older ones for printers at least.

As to toner being cheaper for the older models, almost always the case. It will take a litle time for the 3rd party oems to come out with cheap alternatives.

Thanks. I got the 733 for $170 shipped from Provantage, so that's pretty dang hard to beat. I haven't fully checked, but doesn't the 733 also have the application library? And why the heck does the 743 weigh 10 more pounds?!?

No idea. None of it is worth worrying about imo. Canon generally makes excellent printers in my experience. They usually last for years if properly maintained. Anyone can get a lemon, but I would neither pay more for the latest model no pay for features that are marginal at best.

The value of color lasers are to a great degree determined by the availability of cheap toner refills. You never want to buy one that will cost you bucks to replace the toner on, even if it is just for a year or two imo.

Printers are a pretty stable technology, not a ton of innovation going on there and usually new models make very minor changes. I would go so far as saying most older models are better (because of the availability of 3rd party ink/toner) there. If your old printer you got a great deal on is meeting your needs and doing so inexpensively I wouldn't stress out about the new model.

Are you kidding me? I am SOOOO jealous right now!! $170 for a 733cdw is insane. If anyone sees a good deal on this printer, please please please let me know. I'm in the market for an mf733cdw. But the cheapest I see right now is for $320. The mf743cdw is $280, but that $40 savings is easily gone after buying a set of toners. I'm hoping that this goes on sale somewhere soon.

By the way, I think that the 743 is marginally faster in just one area, BUT dropped faxing capabilities, so 733 is better deal for now, especially since toners are still way cheaper on this older model. Need this for my church, so the faxing is a plus.
