Hmm, OK.

You dislike them, that's fine.

Calling them crap, bad etc is just silly though.

These speakers made decent sound available to lots of people.

That's why people talked/talk about them. Not just reviewers and NOT just because they were cheap.

There are dozens of online threads and posts by normal people too.

Are they great?

No, of course not.

Are they decent, even great for their list price? Yes.

We could go round all day, but I have better to do.

Some people don't want to or can't spend thousands on speakers.

We all get to decide what we buy and how/where to spend our money.

How about this?

Suggest something better for say $150 a speaker and defend why it's worth the extra money.

Otherwise, just quit.

It comes across as unhelpful audio snobbery.

Buying speakers is like finding a wife. You have to take them home and audition them before you know which one is right for you. You cannot decide based on other people's reviews Big Grin

I don't think that's accurate or fair.

They are polite to restrained at lower volumes or when fed by weaker AVR's.

They DO have to be pushed to sound their best. All of the AJ Pioneer were WIDELY reviewed as being fantastic, especially at their pricing. The exceptions being the center and the pathetic 8 inch sub.

I bought the first model series SP-FS51 a few years back on Newegg. Hopefully they improved for music playback with this model. Music just sounds so muffled, like there is no treble, despite jacking the treble high.

Nah. Newegg is fishing before BF deals pop. If they don't move 'em at this price it'll at least go $10-$15 lower.

I bought these years ago based on reviews by other SDers. I was amazed at how horrible they were. Immediately returned them. I agree about sound being muffled and just all around bad.

Seems like a good deal. If it was from anywhere other than newegg I might bite. Their return policy is horrendous though, so you better make sure you really want these speakers before you order.

I have them connected to a flagship Yamaha receiver and they were terrible. My Polk Monitors sounded far superior at any volume level.

Agree! I have Polk t50, Boston acoustic, Sony ss-cs3, and this ones. At the beginning, I compared these with other two pairs at normal hearing volume. These lacked high and bass, terrible. I thought I got a bad ones, as they are highly appraised every where. At this point, Polk t50 is my favorite due to its good bass (Sony is very close)

Next day, I turned volume to about 80-90 with very loud sound, what difference I heard! These pioneers are phenomenal. Their high, middle were so good! By comparison, Polk lacks high and not that clear on middle, but still have better bass. As my Boston has 8" woofer, it has the best bass at high power.

So these pioneers are super if they are driven with high power.

If you play music at not loud level, do not get this pioneer, instead, you can consider Polk t50 or Sony ss-cs3. If you like to play loud, get this.

It's all subjective. What's muted to one person is bright to another. The arguments here are silly because you're all "right" in the way they sound to you.

The fact is that reviews for these speakers are, across the board, pretty stellar for their price point. Don't expect a flagship Martin Logan from an $80 tower.

Anyone that needs speakers and is on a tight budget would do well to try these.

They're crap speakers. Every review is written in the context of the price point. I got suckered into these years ago by idiots talking about how well-reviewed they are. They aren't good speakers.

Mine sit in the garage, waiting for me to have the inkling to wire them up in there. I'd rather listen through some Bluetooth headphones when I'm out there, so it may be a while. I've replaced the Pioneers with some good used speakers I got off CL, for about the same price as the Pioneers cost me. Much better sound.

Every review is NOT written in the context of their price.

It is more that they were so surprising AT their price.

People mentioned it because there was little to nothing at or near it that competed/was better.

Of course it's in context with their price. Do they compare to much more expensive speakers? No. And there's little competition in their price range because... nobody makes a good product at that price point. Including Pioneer.
