Didn't see this posted although it's apparently been available since the beginning of the month. Samsung Pay now has a debit card account where you can load money from debit, credit or bank accounts and make purchases instead of using a bank card. If you sign up and then upgrade to the full account (which is free), they will add $5 to your account. Then you can send the money by using the new debit card for payments as you would any other card in Samsung Pay. Obviously this is only available to people who have Samsung phones that support Samsung Pay.

I found the upgrade link by clicking on "Add money" and then clicking on the "Bank transfer" tab). After I did that, I had $5 on my card.

They charge 3% for adding money from your credit card, 25c for adding from a debit card but it's apparently currently being waived.

I saw this in Samsung Pay but don't really understand the purpose of it so didn't mess with it. Why would you need this except to get the 5.00?

I can't think of a reason why I would ever use Samsung Pay with a debit card. I like my cash back from using credit cards.

When I upgraded to a full account a few days ago, I had to enter my birthday (among other things), but you couldn't just put in the date. You had to select the date from a month calendar that started on the current month, and you could only change the month (and year) by going back a month at a time, making it a real pain to put in my birthday.

On Android today it was a drop-down for month and day which makes more sense.

They are doing it to compete with the Apple pay card. The card is so you can use Samsung pay any where and not just places that havethe nfc scanners at the registers. Them charging for adding finds though kills it IMO I shouldn't be charged for them to be able to see my shopping habits.

I clicked on the year at the top of the calendar and it brought up a slider to get to the correct year.

Would be nice if they let you add fees for less than 3%. if you have Samsung Pay linked to Chase Pay, you can get 5% back by using your Chase Freedom card but I don't see a way to get cash out of your account. But if you just use the same card for the purchase you get the 5% with no fee.

Agreed, but an easy $5 works for me.

the 3% is cause of the credit card fees (they charge credit card and then samsung has to get those fees back). the twenty five cents from a debit card makes no sense though.

I'm pretty sure adding funds from the bank should be free. Just the fees apply when you add money through a card.

A reason to use this is that this is similar to Privacy. You might have a sketchy website that you want to buy something from and don't want to put your real credit card information. Instead, you create one of these Samsung info where you can only put $10 into it just for your order of $9.99. This way, even if your card is hacked, stolen, etc, you cannot be charged more than $10. This specific Samsung Card also gives you all 16 digits to the credit card so you can make purchases ONLINE and INSTORE as well.

Any card you add to Samsung Pay works with magnetic stripe readers, not just this specific Samsung Pay card. Samsung Pay (in my honest opinion) has always been better than Apple Pay. It does work almost everywhere, there's free points once a while, and tons of points to redeem free stuff. On top of that, there's cashback, discounts on giftcards and etc.

I've bought several things with Cash Back deals... including a mattress from Sears, which netted me like $125 in cash back. Up to now... I could only spend that cash on gift cards within the Samsung Pay app. Now i can put that cash on the debit card, and just spend it the same as I would any other linked credit card.

Can you go over the steps in depth for me?

I registered for the card the day it came out, not exactly in the promotion timeline.
What I see is that I am required to provide my SSN in order to upgrade my account.

This doesn't include any kind of physical card, and doesn't extend functionality at all depending on what kind of hardware the merchant has.

Correct. You need to provide that information because you are effectively opening up a bank account / debit card.

Samsung Pay is technically able to work everywhere that has a magnetic stripe reader.

Samsung uses MFT, Magnetic Secure Transmission
