It is DDR3, but its 2133 speed DDR3. With a lower CAS than DDR4, its pretty on par with lower speed DDR4 (2133-2400).

It is 2 gen old now though. Strangely, I've seen a few benches that put the 8550u above the 8565u. I don't understand why. The 8565U is marginally faster on the whole though.

Honestly, unless someone is getting Ice Lake (the 'G' chips), Kaby, Comet, and Whiskey Lake is all the same stuff within maybe 15% speed difference.

What specs are you looking for in that price range? Is that likely during BF/Cyber Monday sales? This seems like a solid price with i7/512gb/16gb

Yes for this machine the 16gb model is rarely discounted this much.

Dell XPS 13/15 have had terrible issues with heat management and fan noise

The newer models somewhat fixed this issue but it's still a serious problem

Going for an older model would not be smart even at $900

True , i have heard horror stories from a friend who got this exact model plus since its not considered a defect so had to go through hell to return it , better to stay away !

It's tempting but i'm really loking for the new model 2 in 1. the webcam below the screen is a dealbreaker for me, my wife runs her biz on this and spends tons of time in conference / zoom calls and the low level webcam is so ridiculous

Old models have power supply problems. The power port easily get broken and cannot charge after ~1 year. You need to get extended warranty.

This is so true.. People rejecting or down voting deals cause of such minor differences in processing power. The true change will be icelake 'G' chips, and even then more towards the G7 chips

I am looking for a 9380 with 16GB RAM, Full HD screen (touch not required), >= 256GB SSD, Windows 10 Pro, i5 (i7 preferred), <= $850. I thinks it's possible finding such specs by the end of this year.
