I have the v6, which is the same power as this and it cleans as well as my shark full size. It is also awesome for cleaning the car with the small motorized head. I'm not a fan of dyson, but these live up to the hype.
The V6 is more powerful than the V7.

I have played with v7 through v11 and do like the new canister setup more in the v10 and v11. However if I can find a v8 absolute on sale (black friday-ish) for $200 or close I'm all over it

Battery life is poor. Dyson needs to catch up to others and make the battery easily removable and provide a spare.
If they had a huge battery or an efficient motor people would complain they're too heavy or underpowered... you can't have it all in an economically priced product. The V10/V11 can last up to an hour and more, which I don't think anyone else can match.. but they're also $500-800.

Any suggestions , this for 200 vs Dyson V8 Animal+ Cordfree Stick Vacuum for 300@costco
I'd save myself $100. Basically the only thing you gain with the V8 is a little longer battery life because they have a slightly bigger battery. Even in the side-by-side comparisons you don't see much of any 'cleaning power' difference between the v6/v7/v8 - it's not until you start looking at the v10/v11 you see a little difference but even then it's hard to justify spending 3-4 times as much vs this $200 V7.

The difference is so minimal I doubt anyone would notice in reality. They're all pretty effective vs other stick vacs.

As neat as the V11 is, F paying $700+ for a vacuum...

Are these good for long hair?
Picks up my wife's hair just fine. The only annoying thing is that it gets collected in the motorhead bristles as well so you'll have to remove that. Good thing is you can take it apart easily to clean it out. I try to just use an attachment when I can for hair to avoid having to do this, i.e. when vacuuming the bathrooms.

What's the difference between this and fluffy?
Per Dyson customer support:

All V7 models have the same motor and battery so the specs are the same. The difference is in the tools and filter.

The V7 Animal has the mini motorized tool, soft dusting brush, crevice tool and combination tool as well as HEPA filtration.

The Fluffy is designed for only hard floors. It has the same tools and filter as the Animal, but with the soft roller cleaner head instead of the brush bar.

And for anyone interested in the V7 Motorhead for sale at Target for $250, it only has the crevice and combination tool.

Do you have to hold the button the whole time to use this or does it stay on by itself?

I own a Persian and Himalayan Cattery and bought the V7 Absolute last year during Black Friday. It has been a lifesaver for cleaning my Cattery and house. It came with the Floppy head as well as the regular motorized head. I want to get another one as a back up. My one complaint, which really is not a complaint, is that I have to carry both heads around in order to do both the carpet and the hardwood floors in the house. Question: Does the V7 Animal do both hardwood floors and carpet with just one head? If so, does it clean the hardwood floors and carpet with one head, as well as the V7 Absolute and its two heads? Thanks for any constructive replies.

Contact Dyson and they'll send you a new one fairly easy to replace

Would this be a significant upgrade from my current Dyson DC35 ?

A lot of people dismiss dysons as overpriced and not worth it, but I kind of doubt those people have used a dyson much if at all.

Could another manufacturer do it better? Probably, but until Dyson's cyclone patent expires.. they're probably going to remain a top contender. Cyclones make extremely effective dust separators, which in turn means very little gets to your filter (compared to a conventional vacuum).

I've got an older plug-in dyson ball and after 2 years I've never had to do more than just dump the bin. The filters stay *that* clean.

I just ordered this V7 fluffy for the convenience - looking forward to not having to bust out the heavy-ish Ball vac and wrangling a cord.

V11 actually.. and the real question is whether spending 3 times as much as this is worth it. Probably not.

The button is actually TOO EASY to press. Almost no resistance, so there's no strain on your finger. The point of making u hold the button is so u don't leave it running for 1 second longer than necessary to conserve battery.

Just a note. I have the v7 fluffy. Love it. But dyson advertises 30 min run time. That is if u r NOT using a powered head. It's 20 min with a powered head.
