They might also say 178 degree viewing angle instead of IPS. This one says neither.

Not touch screen, no keyboard backlight, heavy.

Not a good laptop for the price.

Decent I/O selection, slightly above average for it price. Most of this laptops come with the core i5 in this range.

This results in a 16% to 19% better than their core i5 counter part. But most people won't notice the difference to be honest.

Good question. Asus states on its website 3 options for VivoBook X512FA displays, one of which is IPS (https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS...fications/)

15.6" (16:9) LED-backlit FHD (1920x1080) 60Hz Anti-Glare IPS-level Panel with 45% NTSC
15.6" (16:9) LED-backlit FHD (1920x1080) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 45% NTSC
15.6" (16:9) LED-backlit HD (1366x768) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 45% NTSC

X512FA-BI7A is a Best Buy only model, so the only way to know for sure if it's IPS (Option 1) is to check it out at the store. However, my guess is it's not. All stores proudly state IPS in display specs if that's indeed the case and usually don't mention anything about the display type if it's TN.

Otherwise, looks like a decent ultrabook at a pretty good price.

8th gen i7, Intel UHD 620 graphics. Still good at this price having 12GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD and i7 processor imo. Upgrading graphics and display will push price to 1000$. Not sure of display on this though if it's IPS or TN.

There has to be a catch here. Is the memory soldered? Expandable?

I was close to biting on this deal. My budget is $500 and really great specs on this machine... with the display potentially TN tho that's a dealbreaker for me. I'm waiting until closer to BF at this point. I'd sacrifice the i7 and go to an i5 to gain a better display and potentially adding touchscreen.

Buy now and don't open. Black Friday ads usually start leaking about second week of November. Return unopened when ads leak.

Where do you see that? It specifically says NO to backlit keyboard on the specs.
