Wish this was smaller than 45mm. I can sometimes get away with 42mm, but 45mm is too large for my wrist.

Seems like all these Eco Drives I like are all on the larger size.

I usually love the citizen chronographs. There is just something off putting about this one, though. I think it is the gray with the black. And that splash of orange isnt doing it any favors.

There's too much dead space on the face. Very unlike Citizen.

Does anyone have any experience with these eco-drive watches? Years ago I had a Seiko kinetic that was a similar concept but motion instead of solar.

I actually prefer the "less busy" faces. The arrangement of the small dials is odd to me. Looks like Mickey Mouse with ears that are bigger than his head.

I've had both. Eco-drive is excellent as long as you wear it somewhat frequently (at least weekly) and do not store it in a dark place.

Yes. I have two eco-drives. They are a good watch. Had them between 5 and 10 years with no issues, Look nice, for not a lot of money. The only draw back to them is that you either have to wear them every day, or leave them out somewhere that gets light so they stay charged. Unlike an automatic where you can put it on your wrist for a few minutes and it will start running, these take a bit to charge enough to start running. I find that I have to either leave them out all the time, or plan ahead when I am going to wear one of them. Can't put them in the watch box and spur of the moment decide to wear one.

Edit to add: So what Captain Cook said right before me.

Have one and they are best main stream watches, haven't had any battery issues in last 5 years of usage

My wife got me one in ~2003. I'm planning to drop it off for capacitor (battery) replacement in the next couple of weeks. Stopped keeping accurate time about 2 months ago. It's my every day since I got it. I've had to replace the crystal, banged, dropped, etc., and never a problem.

I wouldn't worry,

ds

You may be able to go 5 to 20-some years before replacing the rechargeable battery. I have had several for about 3 to 5 years.

I would say you need to store them somewhere with good light rather than just say not in the dark. I have one that I seldom wear that I kept face up in a bedroom that has 4 windows on a west facing wall and on on a north facing wall. The watch was not originally near a window or lamp and would need to be charged for a long time before I could use if if I left it there for too long--probably a few months. I now keep it and other rechargeable watches on a night stand that has a lamp and is also a window nearby. I also have cheap rechargeable Casio watches that hold a charge for only a few weeks. They are useable after a charging in light for just a few minutes. My other Citizen rechargeable watch may have a better battery in it as it has never run low on charge but I wear it several times a month which helps.

I assume a watch case with a window would allow recharging.

Hmm, I've worn a Citizen Eco-drive [amazon.com] for almost two years now and never had any trouble with the battery. I wear it most days, but have sometimes gone several days without wearing it.

Are you guys with battery issues leaving it for weeks at a time?

I have a Seiko automatic now, and I have to wind + set it any time I go more than a day without wearing it, as expected.
