For anyone with a Fry's nearby, I've seen this TV go on their coupon code deals as one of the mystery 'famous brand' sales a few times in recent months. I purchased in mid August at $699 new, with a perfect box, and have seen the same deal pop up a couple of times since then. If you get the Fry's emails, then you can keep an eye out for "$699 65" Class Premium Smart 4K UHD LED TV"

Not TC'ing, but thought i'd throw my experience out there, as it's obviously better than this if you can get it. Otherwise, I'd be pretty pleased with this set at $780 in the absence of the other deal.

While not a direct comparison to the r617 others are mentioning in this thread, but this RU8 tops my TCL P605 (R617 predecessor) in almost aspects FWIW.

TCL's are notorious for banding and "dirty screen" issues. Samsung much less so. I was looking at getting a TCL a few months ago. Every store I went to to look at them had a broken TCL on their walls, lol. I took that as a sign...

The TCL 65" 6 series (2019) is selling for $700 . Seems like that would be the better way to go if you want that size.

I bought my parents, who are seniors, last years 6 series and set it up for them with a sound bar. I was pleasantly impressed with it, especially the overall picture quality. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 2019 QLED, as it is even better. if you get a bad screen, just swap it out. The one I purchased last year was fine right out of the box.

if I had to guess, the damaged screens are probably due to packing issues, considering it doesn't have a bezel. Probably cracking at the edges from improper cushioning.

The one I got from the previous deal sure seemed like it was never opened and I had no issues registering my TV with Samsung. Seems others were in the same boat: https://slickdeals.net/f/13423648-scuffed-box-65-samsung-un65ru8000-4k-tv-797-or-75-un75ru8000-4k-led-1269-free-s-h?page=5#comments

These sets are good for gaming but don't get very bright. They are similar to the Q60 sets, neither of which are quantum dot.

I bought the 75" scuffed box version of this TV from BuyDig a few weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived. They somehow screwed up my address.

I feel like there should be a rule and/or simple form logic when submitting a deal that the item first listed in the title should be the price that's reflected on the deal.

Been slickdealing forever now, and this still confuses me every goddamn time until I figure it out by reading the first post.

I have this set in a 65" and paid $999 for it a few weeks ago. Absolutely love it. Gets plenty bright, juat need to use Dynamic and High Contrast for 4K HDR content. Stunning picture quality. Does a better job of upconverting 720p and 1080i content. Football looks amazing. Blows away my M Series Vizio.
