to each their own but i last owned an nvidia shield tablet with 2gb of ram bought in 2015 and it was great at the time but is pathetic these days, even base line phones have AT LEAST 3gb of ram, the last phone i bought has 8 and itd be hard for me to go back, sticks and stones i guess
I mean it's convenient to blame the memory but Android has excellent memory management. It just closes stuff you aren't using. Old androids getting slow seem, in my limited experience, to do a lot more with the vendor pushing updates that eventually kill the performance.

My 2013 Nexus 7 was basically unusable (2gb ram damn you!) then I loaded Lineage 14.1 I think and it's like a fresh new tablet. Still as slow as the processor but not hanging, not taking 30 seconds to do stuff.

More memory on android really just means more apps you can swipe through and still have open at the same time. That's not a huge deal for me. One or two is fine. YMMV based on how you want to use the tablet.

At some point we might grow to multi-GB in memory apps, games I guess, but that locks out a huge customer base so most devs would want to avoid it.

Sadly, my SM-T320 has a significantly better screen and its so old! I'll drag it out until someone suggests a tablet deal with similar or better screen res; I purchased a Tab A and returned it two days later to BBuy; can;t downgrade screen res once you've seen it at higher!!!

Costco Black Friday has/will have the TAB A 128 gb for $199.99, so might be worth the wait...

I have this tablet and GREAT tablet, love mine! Only thing to take into account if you buy is that Samsung has only released one update for this tablet which was the May 1st security patch.

I have the LTE version of this and it works great as a huge car gps mounted on my center console CD slot. Feels like a poor man's Tesla sometimes lol. Does the wifi only version have gps capabilities?

You might be about to also stack a 5% off promo code at checkout.

ref-r1gibt worked for me when I was looking at Galaxy S10s.
