This deal is warm only if:

1) You need your first hub or an add on hub to accommodate more bulbs
2) You don't need the hub and will follow through with actually flipping the hub
3) 1 or 2 above and you have a Costco membership

Cons:
1) If you only need the bulbs, they will be this price in a few weeks (or lower)
2) Gen 3 non-Bluetooth
3) Need a Costco membership

If I was just starting out, I'd grab this deal, but only if I had the membership or access to one.

GOAT right here. Thanks for confirming the Hue generation as these have to be the biggest pain in the ass to determine w some retailers.

Way behind this tech. Is this Gen 3 then with its brighter "more vibrant" colors somehow not desired then? * I see your con on Gen 3 non bluetooth.. or are all gen 3 not bluetooth.. That may be the issue. I will search more and may have answered my own question.

Looking to start this in our nursery so we can dim with voice/alexa etc if our arms are tied up with the upcoming baby.

This seems like an easy way to grab a hub and a few colored bulbs. Baby is due in 2 weeks but she wont be in the nursery that soon realistically so I can wait until black friday time.

This application is perfect for you. These bulbs were latest gen until a few months ago. I should have been more clear when listing Bluetooth as a Con. Bluetooth allows these bulbs to work without a hub when in proximity to a Google or Alexa smart device. If you have the hub (included in this deal) then you connect it to your router and get more features than if you don't use the hub. The Bluetooth version (that can also connect to the hub) may have slightly better colors but these bulbs are VERY good. Furthermore, you can mix different gens and they all work fine with the hub.

Congrats on the baby!

You can mix generations.. but there is a big difference in the richness. Especially when compared to the first generation.

The Hue bulbs are more or less better than most everything else on the market, but you pay the premium for them. I have other colored bulbs and they work, but they aren't as nice looking for colors or work as consistently or smoothly. They aren't always as well integrated either.

I just wished they'd sell a pack on sale more often that was just bulbs and didn't include yet another hub.

Problem with these as opposed to smart switches is smart bulbs will eventually fail, like any other bulbs.

I was mostly meaning to buy 3rd and 4th. I've never seen 2nd or 1st sold anywhere unless it was eBay or something.

They have good deals on eBay for refurbs.. they had the 4 pack with hub for $100. Generation 3. When I first bought some, I mixed gen 2 returns and gen 3 new... BIG difference and sent the gen 2 back.

Well, I have tried 4 different ecosystems and came back to Hue every time. I'll branch out to another ecosystem for Holiday lights when I just need to add volume. I prefer either the TP Link KL130 when they are onsale for less than $20. Recently, I picked up several Philips color bulbs that are a new Home Depot exclusive and run on Wiz. They are $15 everyday and do the job as well. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Phili.../310289028

The video was garbage BTW.

Are there ever any deals on just hubs? New user with no need for bulbs, not interested in taking the effort to flip them.
