Saffron is one of the most adulterated things in the world, perhaps because it is so expensive and grows in few places in the world, like parts of Spain, Iran, Kashmir area in India, etc.

Hence it is difficult to gauge it, but every fall, during Diwali festival sale, all Indian grocery chains such as Patel Brothers and Apna Bazaar have special pricing for 1oz of saffron, usually ranging between 25-35$. It comes to only 20% of the price per gram of this Costco deal.

Just an fyi for someone who stocks up on Saffron yearly for whatever purpose. I'm sure this being sold at Costco, must be very high quality.

The Indian store saffron is terrible versus this - not only in color of which the Indian store has added colors, but in flavor which that kind has very little of. You'll end up using twice as much of that as of this. There's just no comparison between the two.

There's a documentary on saffron adulteration - that stuff isn't really saffron at all. It's junk.

This is coupe.

Good deal, they have the 1oz jar in my local Costco store for $11.99

True if you want to cheap out you can find it much cheaper at Indian or even local Mexican grocery stores probably full of filler but it doesn't compare.

Costco one was always turned out very good quality saffron compared to what I can find on amazon via third party sellers and local grocery stores.

World Market/Cost Plus [worldmarket.com] has good saffron, and it's only $4.99 for 5 grams.

The quality might not be good enough for purists, but it's fine for me; the quality of saffron is the least I worry about Smilie

And if you calculate then Costco despite being better quality is still as cheap as the world market. ($5 per gram)
Costco also has a small 2 grams pack available as another SD user pointed out in this thread.

Even thought price is good, the small one in store might be a good buy for most.

U r only supposed to use a little for garnish.. so a few grams last a lot.
