Comparing the R3 to the R5...

Double the RAM, double the SSD, 30% faster CPU, 50% faster GPU. Worth it for $100? Your choice.

You can return the backpack and mouse for additional savings of ~$75, effectively making the laptop at the price points of $239 or $339. <---- Itemized receipt (as of 11/16) shows $22 (backpack), $8 (mouse), which = only a $30 savings

The weight of this laptop is underrated. It's lighter than pretty much every mainstream 14" laptop, and possibly lighter than most 11" 2 in 1 tablets. If weight is your main concern, the Motile laptop is an excellent choice.

Battery life of this laptop is anywhere from 4 hours to 9 hours. AMD Ryzen doesn't throttle as well as Intel. The HDMI port is full size and outputs 4K60Hz@4:4:4 easily thanks to the integrated VEGA 8 graphics.

I do not think there's a better deal for the price to weight to performance ratio you can get from this laptop. The HP from Costco comes close but it is quite heavy and made out of plastic rather than magnesium alloy.

This thing also has a freakin' front IR camera, employing Windows Hello verification technology for super fast logins. It's very similar to the Lumia 950/950 XL and it works with glasses.

Forcing a single channel memory configuration on a Ryzen CPU is breathtakingly stupid.

Don't forget this is just one person's opinions. Opinions are subjective.

250 nits is pretty much average in this category or price.

2.55 lbs is very lightweight for a 14" laptop. Motile claims it is made of magnesium aluminum so the Redditor was wrong assuming it was plastic and flimsy. For reference, my 14" Acer Swift 1 SF114-32 is 2.87 lbs which has an aluminum chassis.

Yeah I cannot forgive or fathom why these companies are deliberately choosing to neuter Ryzen systems. This cost savings is wrong. I suppose if you don't know what this is it won't matter but for those that care it means no sale for you. But I prefer dual channel RAM when possible.

No throttling is great! But what I think is happening here is that the magnesium aluminum chassis is absorbing the heat and being used as a heatsink. Again, here we don't know how the laptop performs in day to day activities. What was the Redditor doing to cause it to get so hot? What temperatures exactly? What about light tasks such as web browsing or playing music or working on a document? Is it hot then? We don't know, all we have is this one user's opinion with some brief testing. He doesn't even have the laptop any more for further testing and with different scenarios.

I saw some people here jump to conclusions based on this one person. Everybody has different needs and opinions of what they deem as acceptable performance. To some this will be an upgrade and to others it will be a downgrade. Lastly, this laptop is $300. I think people need to set their expectations accordingly if you expect everything for nothing.

One of the most common complaints on every laptop post is 1080p. Well this has that and it's IPS, check.

Backlit keyboard, check.

Magnesium aluminum chassis, check.

Upgradeable RAM, check.

Upgradeable SSD, check.

Current gen Ryzen, check.

No hassle return policy, check.

For the most part I think it's worth checking out which is what I intend on doing then decide for myself. I will say lack of a support website is a little strange so that's another mistake on this product's manufacturer.

For $300 it comes with a 250 nits ips panel and its 2.55 pounds at 14 inches? Light, flimsy, single channel ram, doesnt seem to throttle although runs hot.

This is a poor mans lg gram and at this price i would absolutely try it out if i needed a laptop on a budget.

doesn't even say what generation ryzen .. seems to be deliberately deceptive as they are selling older ryzen processor based systems.
3xxxU series procesors are part of the deal.

A lot of these boards say you can't add but there is a slot to add ram. The system should run the ram in dual channel and anything more runs in single.

so if you add a stick of 8 then 4 will run dual channel and the extra 4 won't.

You're wrong. What you describe would only work if the laptop already had 4GB soldered to the board. Adding an additional 8GB would then bump up the total to 12GB. The first total 8GB would run in dual channel and the remaining 4GB would run in single channel.

Regardless this is a single channel machine even if you throw in a 32GB stick. You're welcome to prove us wrong.

Do you have pictures of the actual board? You're coming at this with the wrong attitude. No one here is trying to attack your knowledge, but I have personally worked on three separate computer from different manufacturers that all claim only 4gb soldered to the board with no upgradability. Which ends up not being true and instead there is an empty ram slot.

It's fine if this computer doesn't have it, but I wanted to bring up the possiblity.
