The HD 58X Jubilee uses Sennheiser's new 150-ohm drivers, which require less amplification than previous driver platforms while retaining the same magnet strength and driver size. This makes the new headphone easier to drive from sources like your mobile phone or digital audio player. The sound is clear, fast, dynamic, and lively: reminiscent in some ways of the HD 600 and in others of the HD 650. It places an emphasis on clean, extended bass, with a solid transient response and a smooth but clear upper midrange.

For those coming from a Beats or a Bose type headphone: really changes up how you listen to music. Pink Floyd has never sounded this good in your life. You'll hear things you haven't heard before in your music. If you enjoy listening at home, in a quiet environment, it's a small splurge to really enjoy your music in a new and better way. In the hobbiest community, these are a crowd pleaser even at their MSRP. Two caveats:
1. Not a fantastic headphone for EDM.
2. Will suddenly make you care about changing your music quality in the Spotify settings to "very high".

Helpful?
Changing ear pads on headphones will pretty greatly change the frequency response, I wouldn't recommend it. Also, the stock pads are comfortable, so there's no real need to change them.

I've had HD600 for 20 years and was looking for another great pair of headphones and this is it. Just to think that these come out cheaper than something like rotten POS that Audiotechnica ATH-50x are (which I also have) is mind blowing...
This should be on front page but many here probably don't know what a great product this is...
In the meantime a pile of feces called ATH-50x will get +85 score next time it's $15 off...

What's wrong with your m50x? I thought they were pretty great when I sampled them at the local pro audio shop. I didn't bite only because I have the hd280 pro's for that kind of sound signature.

Are the ear pad upgrades worth it?

To be fair ath m50x are closed back while these are open. Closed vs open is night and day in terms of quality but also usage. Many people wanna listen to good music in the library, public transport, etc. which makes open back headphones a worse experience.
But for anyone who will be listening to music alone in a quiet environment yeah, these Sennheisers are much much better.
Years ago when I was shopping for headphones for college I didn't have enough money for closed and open headphones so I just bought the m50xs.
