I have the older model STR-DH770 and have been very pleased with it. It lacks support for DTS-X and Atmos, but the newer model 790 supports both. I believe I paid $179 or $199 on sale for the 770 a couple of years ago, so this price is pretty solid for the 790. I usually prefer Onkyo, but the 770 has served me well for my needs.

Which denon model?

Also, I remember reading somewhere best buy price matching any black Friday deals bought between now and BF, meaning you don't technically have to wait till then. I believe Amazon does it too as well as some other places

Just placed an order for the Polk Signature S15's and S35 Center, then I saw this.

The Polks look 10x better, but @ this price, I'm giving the Sony's a shot, esp since I have their Core Atmos Speakers already. The Polks S15's are currently on sale for $150 which is a great price too.

Has anyone heard both?

I've only heard the Polks in-store, so my opinion probably doesn't mean much, but they and the cores seem comparable to me. I know some over at AVS have both and liked the Polk S15s a little more, but it's not like it was a huge difference. If you decide to stick with the Polks, the S30 probably is the better center to go with by the way -- if you can fit it.

If it was me, I'd say go for the Cores and spend the money saved on a decent subwoofer. Or go for a center mismatch and upgrade there, Core center may be okay, but there is room for improvement.

I had the Polk S15s for a couple years and I helped my dad buy and set up the Sonys. Both are very good but I would give the edge to the Polks with the S30. They have a bit more midbass and I think they sound a little better. The polks are amazing and I think best bang for your buck when they come on sale.

I had the Polk S20, 15 and 30 center channel, but no longer have any of them. Very solid budget speakers, but the build quality isn't really much better than the Sony speakers, which I had back then and still have. The Polk S15 compared to the Sony CS5 has more lower end capability, but the CS5 has a bit more detail higher in range. Both good budget speakers, but I don't think the S15 is worth 2x the price compared to the CS5. Polk S line also doesn't have an Atmos option and the curved cabinets aren't the best for sitting an Atmos module on top. The S35 isn't an actual center channel, but rather a LCR speaker. The S30 is the only dedicated center in the S line and a better option over the S35 for center duty.

Your advice about the center caught my eye.
Wondering if I could use one of these sony bookshelf speakers as my center. Any thoughts?
