I read a tear down of a monolith headphone by an audio engineer and he was impressed by the build design and it was made in taiwan.Too bad they provided an in adequate amp.But I think it actually works alright with pc. (by the way taiwan holds computex where all the big pc news are announced. brands like msi, evga that make the best graphic cards and mobo are from taiwan. Taiwan electrical engineer is top notch. too bad they make components and not whole products like samsung. HTC was innovative with m7 then made poor design choices)

Anyways, audiophile headphones are expensive because of the research to make that 5% improvement is very difficult. And they only sell a few units compared to bose, beats headphones so they are priced very expensive (like beds). But some of these prices are astronomical for regular consumers. Prices drop dramatically after a few yrs when new models come out. I remember when sennheiser hd600 was very expensive and he560 was $1000.

Quite the quandary with a deal like this. I remain very impressed with Hifiman's lower offerings such as the 400i and 560 and would recommend those to anyone that can find a deal on them. That said, concerns of quality control give me pause on a deal like this. With relatively inexpensive headphones such as the 400, I can somewhat stomach the headband breaking or something failing after a few years of continuous use, but for this price its longevity would worry me.

Quality control remains a well documented issue with this company, and while I think these will no doubt sound awesome like all of their other models I have heard, I hope the build quality is better than I expect..

I think the proper price for these is $400, considering the quality and design, at $700, it should be built with a proper headband, a good and flexible cable, quality connectors, and leather or nice pleather pads. Unfortunately, the he-6se has none of the above features.
If your argument was QC then that's reasonable. But if you just want to feel fancy then just buy a Focal, this is not for you

These are one of the end game headphones I want. Great deal as they are hard to find used. They need a beefy amp to drive them.

If someone wants a review of high-end headphones, here is a good link. The HE-6 is #9 on this guys list. The biggest con is that it requires powerful amp.

Honestly if you are looking at ~$700 headphones the Audeze LCD2 Classic is something you definitely have to check out. You can get them for significantly less occasionally -- last year over black friday they had them for $550 for scratch and dent models and I picked up a set and they are like new -- literally perfect. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a similar sale this year.

A person with far better hearing than mine. No matter what headphones I use. I have a constant ringing. Tinnitus. So dollar store, these or those ones I saw with the tube amp for $25k. It doesn't make much difference to me.

For convenience and practicality, new air pods. For pretentiousness and fooling oneself these.

99.9999% of people are going to be feeding compressed music streams into them anyway. So there is no benefit. #GIGO.

I would agree with that use for over priced air pods because people are just trying to look cool with expensive q-tips hanging out of their ears, but people who buy $700 head phones aren't buying them to listen to poorly encoded MP3s.

Maybe some use for higher bit rate MP3's because the are harder to distinguish from FLAC or WAV files, but that's another debate.
