Actually it's only marginally, if any, better than a $30 Costco hair dryer. Wtf could be so much better that it's worth even close to $200?!?! For real???
If you took the 2 minutes to Google it, you wouldn't ask this question.

There's no 30 dollar dryer that compares to even a 100 dollar Helen of Troy, Bayliss, Chi, or any of the higher end models. Again, they're not using 30 dollar hair dryers at a salon FOR A REASON.

Direct quote from Wirecutter: "the Supersonic is more pleasant to use in almost every way due to its unique design."

That sounds like more than "marginally better" than what the original commenter said.
I agree. I mean a Lexus and a Hyundai can do the exact same things. But one is easier to do them in than the other. That's why premium pricing exists in the first place.

I just want to add that I am a cosmetologist and the weight/speed of this dryer has made a huge impact on my shoulders. That makes it worth the cost to me

How so? MSRP of $399, factory refurbished from Dyson for $219. How is that not a good deal?

Not saying they all are but be careful, there are replicas of these with very little discrepancies from the authentic ones. Do a little research so you're not spending couple hundred dollars on imitations.
Very true, all/most of the brand new dyson hair dyers for $240 are fake. better to by it directly from this dyson ebay seller

Does that mean the real ones are super overpriced?

I thought so too, initially.

I bought it as gift for my wife last year. The smile on her face whenever she uses it is totally worth it.

Aside from that, the thing is very well built and engineered (compared to her other hair dryers, all of which are now gone from the house).
Even when we go to 5 star hotels, she scoffs at their dryers and wishes she brought her Dyson dryer.

She wants another one now, the hair curling iron thing. That she can bring on trips. Waiting for that sale.

I'm not the type to call anyone dumb for what they choose to do with their own money, but Wirecutter did do a detailed comparison, which showed that it's only marginally, if at all, better than a $30 hair dryer currently being sold at Costco...

EDIT:

https://thewirecutter.com/reviews...air-dryer/

I'm referring to the Con Air Infinity Pro.
Why Dyson rocks is because of the temperature control. People who do not want excessive heat (kinky natural hair world) would prefer this. However these Dysons malfunction frequently.

It's better to buy their commercial version. Higher chance of it lasting longer. However it's $50 more than the regular new version at $400

Stick your head out the car window at 70mph. It dries it just as fast.
Car is pricier than the hairdryer though 🤷🏻 ♂️

I've been replied to with many reasonable responses as to why the Dyson is better for them than the Con air. Noise level reducing sleep, weak wife who can't hold it for extended period of time, looks cooler etc.

But this one I don't get. There are two heat settings on the Con Air. The first is at a level where it is obviously too cool to cause any heat damage. I don't remember where I saw this but some people complained the Dyson was too hot even at the lowest setting.
