Even sweeter deal if you have AMEX offer for $30 back on $150 ring.com purchase.

Thanks, i had ordered the 3 pack from Costco for 249.99 just yesterday so I'll return it, I really need 2 wired for now so this was a better deal and with the free solar sign too. 5% cashback using chase freedom via paypal also.

Do these need any other accessories to work like a base station or anything?

No hub/base station required. You'll see more under Power and Connectivity on the item page. Basically, it requires a network connection and a power source (either PoE or USB power.)

Maybe check out this page for more info - https://shop.ring.com/pages/faq

I imagine most people use these indoors due to the needed power supply-- or curious how people setup/install for outdoor usage. Should I grab these or are there better substitutes, like the Arlo Pro?

Thanks

Hi thefacta

Wire Free ( like the Arlo Pro ) cameras ( no wires for data, no wires for power ) will not perform as well as wired cameras due to the need to reduce power usage. I would only go that route if you have no other option.

Wired ( both for power and data ) will be the most reliable solution and give you options for numerous cameras which can provide better imaging than many of the consumer grade cloud dependent cameras.

If own the house, it is imho completely worth it to run cables for security cameras as well as any security alarm system. If you rent then it depends ... depends on the threat level, landlord acceptance, how easy it is to run the lines...

It can be fairly easy ( weekend job with a friend ) to a pita to run cables depending on the construction of the house.

If you have an attached garage, you can use that as a base to run cables to 2 IP PoE cameras to cover the driveway, and a couple to cover the walkway up to the front door, and perhaps a camera to cover the garage side of the house.

If you have a one story with good attic access - also typically fair easy to run.

Definitely should see a number of good deals like the last couple of years on security cameras.

Take the time to do your research now to determine what your needs / wants are.

Remember, many consumer grade cameras have very wide FOVs and thus short ID distances.

If you're new to security cameras please see the following wiki's:
