This is made by Hisense and branded as Sharp. You're buying a $300 Hisense TV.

Hisense owns Sharp's NA rights for years now, they also own a LARGE portion of Toshiba. They are the tied with Sony as the 3rd largest manufacturer of TVs worldwide with each having about 7% global market share. For reference LG owns 12%.

I'd say that is far from being a cut rate brand

We've got a 60" hisense with no issues. I'd buy another one without thinking twice.

Is that good or bad? Is Hisense a good brand?

It's a cut rate brand. I've never owned one, but I have heard people say they are a step below other cut rate sets like TCL. I just browsed the reviews, and this one seems to have many of the issues common associated with other cut rate lower level sets: screen issues, speaker issues, the usual suspects. It doesn't look like it's super common, but, enough that it drops the rating level to 3.2 stars. That said, it's a $300 58-in TV.
