How does this compare in performance to the Synology DS918+? The price difference is significant obviously but I'm just looking for a decent NAS with transcoding for video files from multiple devices....phones, cameras, and a GoPro.

Will this one get the job done without being a slug?

The RAM is concerning and I read it's not upgradeable.

Synology one is in a different league. it will do transcoding

if you want transcoding, avoid this one.
