Horrible deal. TR4 is a dead platform now. New threadippers is a different chipset. Buy a Ryzen 3600 instead.

When this came out I thought it would be the be all end all of chips. Guess I misunderstood it but Ryzen has made such a parabolic trend in performance efficiency and value. Youre better off with the new 3xxx line Still for $150 I think this would be cool to have if you can find a board for it at the good price.

First glance, Newegg has no boards less than $229. Cheap chip, but looks like you'll make it up when spending on the board.

Holding out for the 2950x to drop below $500. We all know it's coming! Any day now.

Debatable... my 2700x is not much faster then my 1700x was. Clock for clock it's like 3%-5% but regardless this is a dead socket... and unless you just have to have this or want the Box this is a BAD Deal.

Just get an 8-core Ryzen instead. 2000-3000 series. Same power, but half the wattage.

Pretty good deal.

IMO most of us don't change CPU within its socket life cycle. By the time I'm ready to upgrade I usually need to move to the next generation of DDR, which will require a new socket.

I wouldn't call it dead. You have an upgrade path to a 2970 or 2990wx. I wouldn't buy a new motherboard currently but it's going to be one of the most powerful cpu architectures on the market for many years, and if amd drops the price of the 2990wx by half or even a quarter when thread ripper 3 launches..

One thing that people need to remember is that amd doesn't price stagnate like Intel has been doing. They'll be lowering the prices of the threadrippers to get rid of old stock
