They'll be fine. If not, they'll be absorbed by Swatch group, lvmh, or another conglomerate...

And don't mistake lower price here in USA as an indication of brand trajectory. Mido, certina, glycine, etc are all cheaper here in the USA via gray market. In EU, you're pretty much paying full price.
Don't Swatch own the ETA rights? Kinda sad too.

found this about the movement if anyone is interested:

Yes Sellita SW200-1, power reserve 38hrs, 28,800vph 26 jewels, 1 ball bearing. Pretty slick for the price. You just can't get a 28,800vph at this price.
Interesting read about the movement:

Same. $359. That's the one I got. Sweet right? I love leather bands BUT I'm going to wear as my daily clunker and need stainless steel band for wear and tear. Lovely watch really and truly an awesome history behind the watch maker, so in my mind, one of the best watch makers in the world and therefore each of their offerings is class and quality. Beautifully thought out design. Perfect size for the average wrist and as thin as it gets for an automatic with a great movement.

Oh ok nice, also is it only these 3 models the code applies to? Or are there other models as well? Not sure if you tried or not, I tried on the more expensive ones and they did not apply.

I think its just these three. Maybe for the ladies too if they carry those. I tried too on a few others, would be real nice with the more expensive ones. Didn't try code on all of them.. but no luck on the ones I tried. if you find any others please let me know..

Ahh ok, can you give me some advice, new to watches and technically if i bought this I would be making a decent leap up from Citizen Eco Drives I normally wear. But what makes this watch so attractive outside of price?

Same here.

Too close to BF though. I'm gonna wait for other deals.

One thing that sucks about brands like Mido, Certina, Eterna is that if you wanna sell the watch after some use, good luck...
Once you buy one of those brands, you're stuck.
I'm a watch nut. I've had tons of watches. Love to buy them, wear them for a little bit and then sell them so I can grab a new piece. Anytime I've had a lesser known brand, the only way I can sell them off is by taking a huge hit. So if you're a person like me, make sure you wanna keep this in your collection forever...
Even if you bought at this price, they wouldnt be worth much after some wear?

According to one poster, in Europe they do. Does anything sell at retail? Maybe real high end like Rolex since they can go up in value..

so according to linked article:
-------------------------------------------------
Sellita is a Swiss movement manufacturer and for the most part copies ETA movements. It does this because it has the machinery capable of such work, along with the fact that the ETA designs are old enough to likely no longer be protected under any Patent rights. For this reason Sellita can make copies of ETA movements just like drug companies can make generic drugs after a period of time.
Having said that, when you see the Sellita SW200 movement in a watch, it is the same movement as an ETA 2824-2. The reason watch makers are using Sellita movements, is not so much about cost, but more having to do with the fact that ETA is slowing down production and will cease to provide movements to watch makers outside the Swatch Group in 2010. So because ETA movements are harder to get, watch makers will use an ETA or Sellita movement depending on what they are able to acquire in time to put the watches together.
---------------------------
Sellita movement is copy of ETA. the watch size is 40 mm. too small for me. I will pass although I like this classic design.

Well it's an automatic, so you need to wear it to self wind as you move about. It will stop running after 38 hours, so if you don't wear over the weekend for example, you'll have to reset the time. It's really one of the best movements (the inner workings) at this price point that you can get and put together by the oldest watch maker in the world (lost in the marketing wars I guess). So in theory, given their history, it's an excellently designed and well thought out time piece without any well known notoriety. So it's more, in your knowing, that this watch is a high class, quality piece that's lost it's name brand notoriety over the hundreds of years of watch marketing. Supposedly keeps outstanding time. So all in all, if you're looking for a sweet deal on an automatic, and like the looks, it's well worth it, imo.

automatic watches are about enjoying the pleasure of movement inside the watch, which you can often view some of the workings on the back of the watch (as you can with this watch) and really it's just a choice of using that system of keeping time and the pleasure of feeling it and loving the historical craftsmanship in each timepiece.

And ironically Eterna invented the ETA. Personally I find the 44mm catch on things to often. Like doors and sink taps etc, so a 40mm is perfect imo. And the slim automatic is the icing on the cake. Been looking for this watch for years. Finally!

also note that sellita made and supplied the ETA and then made their own movement eventually..

I'm 6" and 200lbs. 40mm will be fine imo. I don't like to wear chunky watches since I keep banging them on things and notice them more while wearing which I don't like either. Some might think it's a little effeminate to have a smaller watch but that's all down to preference. I think it looks manly enough.

Is ashford a reputable store? I have never bought from them before. At the same time debsting this or will something better come along? I wonder how the quality of the watch and what brand are? Not the movement but housing, build quality, etc.
