cheaper than buying a standalone 2.5" hard drive.

would be nice to take this drive out and put it into my laptop.
Someone might have already answered this, but you can't take the drive out and install it in something else. It has a USB micro b connector soldered onto the actual controller board instead of an adapter.

Been waiting for this to come out to upgrade my 3tb passport for some time now, but I've heard people say the Easystore line is not as reliable as the Passport line, even though the reviews all say they are the same drives, just with encryption and software differences. Not sure who to believe, maybe I'll wait a bit longer for the 5tb Passport to go on sale.

While this is cheaper, the Costco deal for Seagate Backup Plus 5TB Portable Hard Drive with Rescue Data Recovery Services (2 year coverage) for $10 more might be better.

With reliability statistics, individual anecdotes are useless. You need responses from many people to evaluate the reliability of a given drive. Backblaze is the only company I'm aware of that does this, and of course they only use a few different types of drives.
Ditto, on the epidemiology scale, anecdotal evidence is the absolute lowest;

This lil booger better be schuckable, Ijs. The last few 2.5" WD drive deals weren't due to the HDD being soldered to I/O board from what I can recall and this one doesn't seem to be similar to those.

Micro-usb 3.0. Not usb-c, sadly.

Not proprietary, just micro designed for 3.0. it is backward compatible with typical micro-usb. I really wish it was usb-c!

I wouldn't touch these with a ten foot pole given the failure rate of the 4TB version.

Hard pass.

Do you think there will be a higher TB one for under $100? Can't tell if I should wait or buy this one. Just using it for my xbox one.
