I have a BB close enough that I could drive to return one. I may do it and if it isn't what I wanted I could return it at a brick and morter store and maybe land an equivalent or better on BF.
Nymedic911 got his and confirmed it's a 60hz panel

Thanks. That's stinks. For 900$? Pass. They weren't advertising the refresh rate which seems to always be a red flag. Why all that power and cheap out on the panel. I'd give 800$ for it, no more.

thx Nymedic911, repped.

Left the following first review:

"Super deceptive, whether on Best Buy's part or Asus or both, this model is only 60hz despite Model G731GU stating even on Asus website that this should be a 120hz (or 144hz) panel. This "flavor" of G731GU is apparently a "dumbed-down Best Buy exclusive."

Know what you're buying and shame on these guys for not clearly stating it's 60hz. There are literally dozens if not hundreds of people in the forums trying to guess what the refresh rate of the display is because these guys refuse to state that in the specs. For shame"

Shame on Asus for not documenting better or following their own standards they put on their website regarding refresh rate and model numbers.

Assume that unless it it advertised otherwise, every gaming laptop that you find at Best Buy and Walmart is going to be 60Hz. There are a bunch of companies like Best Buy pushing these subpar mass-produced "Black Friday deal" models so do your research.

I am hoping I can ignore the 60Hz limitation below through HDMI and assume that it will do more? Also per this statement below, the USB Type-C can do displayport? So to the person who said it doesn't have displayport, I guess it does?

"Hook up your favorite peripherals and get in-game quickly. Enjoy blazing fast transfers at Gen 2 speeds via the USB 3.1 Type-C™ with DisplayPort™ 1.4, or connect an external display for superior multi-tasking. Three Type-A USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports are ready for all of your must-have gear, while HDMI 2.0b allows you to enjoy movies and games on a 4K monitor or TV at up to 60Hz. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet boasts lower networking latency for competitive multiplayer gaming, complementing the built-in Wi-Fi."

Yeah you can connect an external monitor with a higher refresh rate as long as you use that as the only display.

Darn. Too late to cancel on my order - it's locked out. Looks like will be returning when it arrives.

144hz HDMI output to my Benq gaming monitor HDMI 2.0b input confirmed for those that care. Laptop feels pretty light and screen size is nice but can't help thinking about the MSI GS65 I returned a few months ago. Just have a hard time justifying $500 more for 5% performance increase of RTX 2060. Overall satisfied for The price for a portable gaming rig but I would get a higher refresh screen if it was my main machine.

Part of the problem with this thread is people are referring to the wrong laptop. This is a Asus Strix G and is not the Strix III.

OMG you're right. Look what I stumbled upon:

https://www.asus.com/us/ROG-Repub...heretobuy/

Check out the Part Number on the 17" model it matches best buy's PN. It doesnt say its 60hz but the specs page says 60hz OR 144hz. If you click on the BUY link, it takes you to the exact page on BestBuy as this laptop.

Whats stupid is that BB's product page says its a Strix III numerous times.
What's Included: ASUS ROG Strix SCAR III G731GU BI7N9

G731GU-BI7N9 HDD : SSD PCIEG3x2/512G M.2/NORMAL
MEMORY : DRAM MODULE(DDR4)/2666/8G
Panel Size : 17.3 inch
Resolution : FHD
