Yes, great point

For reference - the Fenix 3 is 2.89oz. My Galaxy Smartwatch is 1.72oz - so the Fenix is about 50% more.

For a lot of people, that weight makes a big difference especially when running or in the gym.
If that's your bigger concern, the forerunner or the vivoactive is still a better choice.

The comparative reviews between Apple Watch and Garmin showed no advantage of Garmin GPS precision over Apple. Both watches use algorithms that try to approximate position on sharp turns or under bridges. In some cases Garmin is ahead and in some Apple Watch.
And please educate me what the heck do you mean that Apple Watch "is not a running Watch"? Because I use it daily form my runs both in urban environments and on the trails and I am not missing anything. Basic exercise app from apple is lacking, but there is a huge number of third party apps that overcome this and it's an advantage that true smart Watch has over the Garmin.
Comparing the Fenix to the Apple Watch as being equivalents because they can both track runs is like comparing a super computer to a laptop as equivalents because they can both do math.

They're different watches, with different purposes, for different audiences. Certainly there is a Venn diagram of overlap between functionality. If you're just running a few times a week on some park trails, then the Apple Watch is perfect.

On the other hand if you're using it to train for an ironman, then the Apple Watch won't cut it.

Is the Garmin Fenix 5 Sapphire Multisport 47mm GPS Fitness Watch $370 a better deal?

Yes, we know. And so will the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Active 2 watch coming in January.

This is not true when you upload to strava, their platform hits the data with the algorithm. If you look at your data via the connect app, it is exactly what the watch recorded, no algorithm is applied.

This watch has all the sensors it needs on it.

"Urban environments and sharps turns" Okay, GPS does not work that way, it takes readings at predetermined intervals, like every 5 seconds or longer. And when you run in a tunnel it just won't record GPS, just like any other GPS watch. There are other sensors on this watch besides GPS.

No they don't. And quit pointing Amazon for everything when they usually just match prices for few quantity to drive traffic

This thing looks huge! For a fitness tracker and casual runner, this is overkill, right?

Yeah guys, this isnt a "smart watch" you cant make an emojee of yourself or any other dumb crap. This is a sport watch. swimming, running, triathlon. And Apple cant touch Garmin for this area. Garmin is the gold standard in this area. I have an ironman coming up in 2 weeks, and now I dont have to worry about my 10 year old garmin 920 dying halfway through it. snap.

Do you get paid to link to amazon and mislead because your link is for a Refurbished item?

just to add to this, the garmin fenix line lasts longer, especially when actively tracking workouts. personally, i like not having to charge my watch every day. i use a fenix 5 plus as a day to day smartwatch, and it's nice to run a marathon and still have juice to keep going. my sister actually dropped her apple watch for a fenix 5s because she was tired of charging her apple watch every day, sometimes more than once per day. i don't think apple watches and garmin watches occupy the same space at the moment, but to each their own. buy the one you like and that fits your day to day.

FYI Amex has an offer right now as well. Spend $300 or more at Best Buy get $30 back.
Do you by any chance know if the tax on this will count for the $300? If I remember correctly the added tax will trigger the bonus offer, but it may not; maybe I should just get a small item along with it to be sure...

Also, I have a Fenix 3 HR Sapphire. Wondering what I could sell that for locally to just get what my upgrade cost would be in the end...
