Can anyone sum up the differences between the Series 3 and Series 4? I'm in the market for a watch and see the a Series 3 is going to be cheap around BF. Besides the ECG monitor what would make me want to spend an additional 150-200$ on it?
The biggest difference is the size. The Series 4 is slightly larger (could be a prop or con) and that combined with a screen that goes closer to the edges has a significantly larger screen. That allows a few more watch faces along with everything being larger.

Other differences - Faster processor on the 4, although the 3 does just fine. Better speaker on the 4 if you are using it for calls or such. If you do not get the LTE model, the 4 has more on board storage (16 vs 8 gb). In LTE version they are both 16. Apple also claims better LTE reception on the 4, not sure if that's been tested really anywhere.

Thanks for the tips. I'm in the same boat. I actually bought the series 3 from Target at the BF price yesterday ($169-5% red card; live chat was very helpful). I bought the series 4 aluminum today from BB. now I just need to decide which one to keep. Just don't know if the 4 is worth the extra $146. I would really only keep the 4 if i think i won't be able to read texts on the series 3 smaller screen without my readers. Smilie

Google is your friend. Way more feedback online to help you decide (or not).

I'm not sure how good of a deal this really is. Its a generation old now. The series 5 at this price would be great but the series 4 is just an attempt to sell off inventory. We're probably a few months off the series 5 being better discounted.
Yes but you can expect to see $50 off aluminum Series 5 in coming months but never $300 off the Stainless.

The 5 has always on display, compass, and lower battery life. Other than that they are exactly the same.

Apple watches have the worst resale value of Apple products. Similar to a Samsung product.

So the 4 will never bet that much more resale

Is the Milanese loop worth additional 100$

Trying to decide to order stainless steel 44 ($400) or stainless steel with Milanese loop ($500)

Background info: I got my first Apple Watch the series 4 on day 1 for like 460$ with tax, but really wanted stainless stee but it was too expensive. Sounds like I can sell this for 270/280 Max through Craigslist.

Stainless steel with Milanese loop is 540 with tax. So that's 260 upgrade cost for stainless steel and Milanese loop.

Worth it ? Note, stainless steel only is on deal when it's being discontinued

The series 4 is a good value because it will likely be supported by WatchOS updates for just as long as the series 5 (they use essentially the same CPU). Usually one of the benefits of buying the newest generation Apple product is that you get an extra year of longevity out of it. But in some cases that doesn't happen and it will likely be the case with the series 5 watch (which is partly why Apple dropped the Series 4 from the lineup).

The same thing happened a few years ago with the iPad Mini. The iPad Mini 3 was essentially the same thing as the Mini 2 "under the hood" with the only addition being touch ID. Lo and behold, both the Mini 2 and Mini 3 were dropped from OS support at the same time (this year).

So unless the always on display or compass would be very useful to you, you're better off with the 4.

Yesterday, the Series 5 (Aluminum, grey, GPS and cellular) had $100 off ($386+tax) @Amazon/Walmart. I think a similar deal will come out again this Month.
For the stainless version of series 5, I personally do not think it will cut as much as the Series 4 in this post. $550-$600 (40mm, GPS+Cellullar) is probably the best I can expect.

Thanks for posting. I have been checking all the sales this week planning to get one at Costco or Sams this weekend.

Ordered, did AMEX $30 back deal and will pick up later. Christmas Shopping for her is done!

I did the series 4... almost identical to the 5. Far from outdated. By the way, she is wearing a series 1 and it is still working great.

B&h was able to honor the same price for the models that are listed. Just live chat with them and copy/paste the best buy link for the model that you are looking to buy and they will price match. You also save on taxes(depending on where you live) which is a killer deal.

The Loops are now $99 regular price.

So buy without.

Also the Milanese can scratch the SS pretty easily. Even the Space Black. You have to be careful taking it off and making sure the loop doesn't touch the case. The regular stainless can be buffed but that loop can make unbuffable scratches. Black and gold can't be buffed

Sorry if there's another thread about it, but can you please tell how you were able to get BF price on Series 3? Is it still possible to get? Thank you.
