For those worried about getting the latest security updates on old Chromebooks (past AUE where Google doesn't update after 6.5 yrs) ---
Google "CloudReady" and install ChromeOS that auto-updates with the latest patches. Works great especially on late-model Chromebooks.

Why ChromeOS instead of Windows or Linux? Windows is dog slow on startup or resume from sleep. ChromeOS is nearly instantaneous.
Windows has gobs of vulnerabilities and even shorter lifespan of security updates. Updates often take an hour.
Most other distros of Linux are good but the UI isn't as polished. Complicated setup for many things that shouldn't be so hard.

This is a premium build chromebook with a 3/4 aluminum build, backlit keyboard, glass TouchPad, etc. I don't understand how people can't see past it being a chromebook and just recommending a bunch of laptops that don't compare.

I for one use a chromebook on a daily basis for college and work, I've never once wished it was a windows laptop. I understand that some people need them, but a lot of people don't.
How do you not see the issue? You're buying into a much more limited platform with tools that are generally far less robust. You can run those same tools on a Windows machine, plus get the ability to run anything else you want. When they are approaching the same price....you should see the problem. It's great that it works for you, but it's a limited solution that doesn't work for everyone

No, it doesn't. I'm typing this right now on a HP Pavillion 14 so old it has the pre-standard keyboard with dedicated delete, home and end keys and a removable battery. It's been out of date for YEARS, but it never leaves my house and has never had a security problem whatsoever. It's one of 6 chromebooks I have. It has a removable battery and is built like a tank compared to many other chromebooks.

I live in the semi-boonies, with a farm right next to me, for instance. Please tell me exactly what security threat you believe I face. Be specific, and a credible link would be nice.
Because you've never had a security problem does not mean you won't. After lots of years in the IT world, every platform is vulnerable. They all have security risks and problems. If you've convinced yourself otherwise, you're only fooling yourself.

Thanks but I have nothing to do with the eBay link. A moderator felt the need to add the eBay portion of the deal. Sorry.

Any Chromebook becomes a garbage once Google stops to update it, better to get a regular PC,very easy to turn PC to Chromebook by couldready
Just curious, do you have an Android phone and if so, are you running the most recent release?

I know many devices out there (iOS, MacOS, Windows, Android, etc) That are a number of upgrades behind the current version and they work just fine.

Go with what fits your needs and budget and realize no matter what you buy, its replacement is already on the assembly line.

The color is the difference (11 versus 12)

The eBay model is 14-DA001`1`DX. White and Blue

Just saying they are not the same, someone is going to miss it and purchase a blue versus white (or vise versa)

i checked at best buy, only difference is the look. I waited for a few minutes for the best buy guy to put on the new model (while and gold). More over, the screen of older is colder while the new one is warmer. i prefer to the colder color though.

ordered one. all chromebook deals out there around this price range are 4GB. This is 8GB.

10% CB - $30
$10 reward for every $100 spent b/w 11/7-11/10 ($ reward to be spent in December) = $30
$30 amex offer

$346 (openbox-certified product after NJ tax) - $90 worth CB = $256 final price.
