Yes, because new tech is ALWAYS superior.

Hint, this isn't always true!

Wired headphones sound better than wireless and discs are always superior to streaming.

Not everyone has access to reliable high speed internet either.

Applause

I have AT&T fiber internet but only stream something if I don't have a physical disc. The disc's bit rates (both video and audio) are so much higher so the difference in quality is noticeable, at least when you put it on a large screen and good surround sound system.

I stand corrected. LG players do auto-switch for DV. Does anyone besides LG and Sony make 4k players at this price point?
Panasonic and Pioneer both make 4K players as well...though not in this price range

Thinking about buying an Xbox one for a 4K Blu-ray and occasional games. Is there any advantage of using a dedicated player such as this?
None, go ahead with your plan, less space occupied too.

I have done very extensive work in last few day, specially on this model. This might be helpful to you and all others who are debating between dedicated Bluray vs Xbox one S /X For bluray.

1. Picture quality will be almost same from all 3 devices. Sony UBP-X700, Xbox one S and X
2. User Experience best from Sony BR player. Its very pleasant experience watching movie, just insert the disc and it will take care remaining. For both Xbox, Bluray /4k option is not by default. You need to install Bluray app, then when you insert disc, need to navigate that app to open / run bluray.
3. Another hassle with Dolby Atmos. You need to install another app in Xbox, not a big deal, still.. Its out of the box for UBP-X700.

4. Best part I like and most people appreciate is dedicated HDMI port for Audio. You don't realize how helpful it's until you use it for the specific purpose. I run all my Atmos movies from BR player to TV and pass the Audio to soundbar as my TV doesn't pass Atmos (I have Samsung 75 inch Q9 Series, it's unfortunate Samsung didn't include that simple feature in this expensive TV).

With both Xbox, to make Atmos work with TV which doesn't pass Atmos, you need to follow this.

XBone HDMI---> Soundbar HDMI1 ---> Soundbar HDMIARC (consider HDMI 4)---> TV HDMIARC = Dolby Atmos works. After searching so many places, I found this is the only way Atmos works with Xbox.

5. Most of the apps including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Vudu supports 4k HDR and Dolby vision and supports Atmos. Doesn't try the apps from Xbox, so not sure about it.

After thinking too much, I finally triggered Sony UBP-X700. Currently enjoying fully. Didn't have regret to buy over Xbox which can just substitute for 4K player, but the experience would be more pleasant with Bluray player.
Regarding digital streaming such as form amazon, vudu, etc which one produces the best results: natively on the samsung tv, xbox or sony player?

Snagged one. Been looking around for a good deal on a 4k player as I just bought my first 4k TV a couple weeks ago. Also grabbed the Mission Impossible box set. Now bring on the Black Friday 4k movie deals!

All you need is the other half, a proper audio set up with reference speakers and you are set!

I have a 7.1 setup with DCM TimeFrames all around and a DCM SurroundScape center. Don't have plans to go Atmos. But I'll never say never!

Sweet and I would add that if you can't follow Dolby's downfiring/in-ceiling layout with matching speakers I wouldn't bother, it's not worth the upgrade IMO.
Your set up is overall better than the alternatives.

Don't rely on fakespot unless you prefer to miss out on good products / deals - especially on big brands like Sony. Fakespot is awful. On this product specifically... you think Sony is writing fake reviews on their products?

Edit: and I see "ranked" #1, in Bluray player which I think mostly goes by sales, not how a product is reviewed.
I've noticed Fakespot grades seem far more harsh recently. A lot of decently graded products have plummeted. I think it's the latest iteration of their big data model, hopefully they roll out something more accurate soon
