Best placement for a sub in right conditions? Difference on a powered vs passive? I'd love a wireless sub for my particular setup (not much room and I could put it under the couch) but I don't know if that would sound bad...

How are you going to put a sub under a couch? lol

Typical placement would be in a corner/against a wall.

Maybe he's use some creative 'couch stilts',
but what he's saying can be done w/ something like this. https://www.parts-express.com/day...af0a1c0e0b

Got one. I've been rocking a klipsch promedia on my TV for a few months. I hope this is a worthy upgrade.

Question: should grab those Sony Cores that are half off? Or wait for some better. I'll be running them off a $300 onkyo receiver
I picked up the Sony Core towers a few months back and have them paired with this sub. I think its better for music than home theater though its by no means a slouch for HT. But I'm also comparing it to my SVS PB1000 which i don't like for music but is head and shoulders much better then a single R10 for HT. I was watching John Wick 3 the other day and switched between my two systems. I felt every gunshot with the SVS whereas with the R10, I only heard them. R10 is also 4 times cheaper too and my wife mostly watches with the system that has the R10 and she thinks its fine.

So I need to get at lease 2 speakers and a recivcer and some speakers cables to get this work right?
I don';t have this sub.
You could likely hook it to a soundbar that has a subwoofer out. I have a little sub in my basement that I hooked to a visio soundbar. Doesn't sound bad. This might overpower the soundbar though.

lol. source? or are you purposely trying to misinform people?
I had Infinity and Polk speakers in multiple cars, and I have an Infinity 5.0 home theater system (only because my Infinity powered sub died). While I'm not some all-knowing source you seem to need, I do have plenty of first hand experience. I will back up his opinion with my own. I used to work in car audio and this is exactly what Infinity was known for amongst the staff. My personal experience is the same.

You can likely hook this (or any powered sub) to a soundbar with a subwoofer output.

How would I go about hooking these up with studio monitors? I am using a DAC that onlyl has L+R TRS balanced outputs.

I have infinity for 4 of my speakers, but my sub is a Dayton 12" and I'm thrilled with it, and I'd do the same all over again. I'd encourage others to put another $50 with this price point and get a Dayton instead.
I also have a 12" Dayton. Sounds ok I guess but I thought the BIC I had that died sounded better. Less boomy. I was thinking of getting the $300 super cube at BB because the Dayton is too big for the space I have,

That is 6" tall, so no, unless you have couch stilts like you mentioned... Haha.

No experience in home theater here.
I just bought the Sony Bookshelf, Center speaker, and floor speakers that were on sale. I paired them with a Denon X1500 and need a speaker. I would like something like the pb1000, but $500 on a sub is steep for me. Should I go with the Daytons or is there something else with better value
