PSA - The Black Friday Nintendo Switch bundle with Mario Kart 8 is the OLD Switch (HAC-001)

Just read an article that the Nintendo Switch bundle with Mario Kart 8 that Nintendo is shipping to retailers for Black Friday is the old version switch. The new version that was recently launched has an efficient processor and a much improved battery life. So far, this bundle has been seen on the leaked Target BF ad. I thought of creating this PSA so people can make an informed decision.

Thanks for the heads up! I am looking to get my son one for Christmas this year. I'll avoid this deal now.

It has a better quality screen though compare to the newer model, so it all depends if you want the better battery life.

I would also note that the chip was not replaced to increase performance.

It was replaced because the current chips can be easily exploited to run custom firmware. So, they are easy to run homebrew, pirated, or other software on.

In this case, the old version switch is probably the better buy if you care about that sort of thing.

Edit: Be sure to check the serial before buying, this can be seen without opening the switch: https://www.imore.com/how-buy-nin...-right-now

Hmmm... The Kohl's door buster does not include a game. I wonder if that will be the newer generation switch?

What if I plan on using it primarily connected to my TV? Very little to no hand held use.

The box that is all red and no HAND in the picture on the box is the newest version!

Source? I've seen someone compare both screens, and the new screen has more accurate colors with a better white balance, and its brighter, too. What makes the new screen worse?

Thanks for posting this information. My kid has the older Switch and I'd buy that one too in a heartbeat. He has no problems whatsoever with it, we're never more than ten seconds from a charger anyway (that includes the SUV) and like others have said, there are separate benefits to having it. But no dramas either way, battery life on the old one is fine, new one is fine, both are fine. Joycons were really the only issue with the Switch.

Depends on how old the version is. There are models of last gen that do not have the hardware vulnerability.
