The model for this phone is XT1921-2. The clearest, most concise spec listing I can find is at the Republic Wireless site: https://help.republicwireless.com...Tech-Specs

This phone should be bootloader unlockable and rootable, per XDA:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/...m-t3820901
https://forum.xda-developers.com/...d-t3856182

LTE bands supported: 1,2,3,4,5,8,12,14,17,30,66

Clearly, it works fully with AT&T, Cricket, and other AT&T MVNOs. As long as you do not power on the phone with included SIM, it should activate just fine on any AT&T MVNO.

This lacks band 13 - which is Verizon's 4G LTE backbone - so it almost certainly will not work with Verizon or Verizon MVNOs.

This lacks bands 25, 26, and 41, so it almost certainly will not work with Sprint.

It does have main TMO LTE bands (2,4,12), so it should technically work with TMO or a TMO MVNO, but activation outside of AT&T or an AT&T MVNO will almost certainly require 6 months of AT&T service before it can be unlocked for that purpose. Still, if you have TMO and pick up this phone, please try and let us all know!

Same price in stores.

What's the difference between the g6 play and the g6?

Which is better?

So this phone will work with the $39.99 annual Tracfone Sim deal on Ebay as long as I select AT&T compatible as the carrier?
If you haven't already and already have a Tracfone account, buying with this link is better: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tracfone...493024108? - this one provides you with a top-up PIN you can use to top-up your existing account instead of it being locked to the SIM card.

I just did this myself and everything is working perfect, wanted to buy more now that I confirmed it works, but the listing is limited to 1 per account. Was able to use a second eBay account to buy one more and combine it with a $50 Switch Game for $15 off $75, but that's all I'm going to do. Will worry more about top-ups in 2 years.

Looks like it can't be unlocked easily. It may have to return mine. Asked a couple of sellers on eBay and they could not.
Considering returning mine too.
Looks like the bootloader is locked so it can't be rooted.
Anyone find a way?

Won't hurt to try. Probably a "no go" though. Gotta believe they have mechanisms to check. I know Cricket does.
Tracfone will know that the ESN has changed when you swap the SIM. Whether they care or not depends...

This deal worked great for me! Phone arrived yesterday - and my Tracfone account with many minutes and data (I pay about $6/month to keep the service active) has been transferred to the new phone w/o any problems. Smilie

The old phone didn't have a nano sim so I did have to pay a buck for a for a new sim at Best Buy.

Thanks to all for posting the deal and providing all the information. Happy Thanksgiving!

Well this deal is expired as I post this but posting anyways in case this helps someone else who already purchased the phone Smilie Friendly warning, this long wall of text is aimed at current AT&T prepaid customers wanting to switch over to this phone and stay with AT&T so if that's not you no need to read all of this Wink

I called AT&T customer service.. now in my opinion cust. serv. rep info should always be taken with a grain of salt since they can, and will, make up answers on the spot (their best guess ) depending on what rep you get a hold of as opposed to rep's who are honest enough to admit they don't know.

Having said that the rep I spoke to appeared to be a pleasant, knowledgeable fellow... looking at the box the phone came in, it looks like you need to sign up for one of their prepaid plans (which oddly enough on the AT&T website says $35 or $40 per month with autopay but the amounts listed are different on the box - maybe they include autopay or maybe they are "old" plans that would be grandfathered in? Not sure).

In our case we're existing AT&T customers who were enrolled under the $45/month plan ($40/month with autopay) , exact same plan as what's printed on the box the phone came in ... the rep at AT&T assures me that switching sim card info from the old phone over to the new phone via calling AT&T customer service is not a problem and it will not result in any changes to existing AT&T service (you still pay the same amount each month, your phone number stays the same and so forth).

Time also is not a factor ... you could wait one year, two years, 10 years , however long you like and then just switch your phone number from your old AT&T prepaid plan to the new one. The six month thing is just how long you have to wait for the phone to be "unlocked" before you can ditch AT&T and go to some other carrier of your choice (not the case for us since we're happy with AT&T but others may not feel that way of course Smilie )

got this phone as a cheap back up and using it with the ebay tracfone $40 yearly plan. looking for a cheap case. I got one from ebay, but it's short from top to bottom and apparently there is a difference in size between the regular play and play go. also, I see that there is a play, play (us), play 5.2, and play 5.3 case descriptions. so, which case would work from ebay???

I got mine a few days ago. I owned the Moto E4 which I think I paid $30 for a couple years ago. For some reason I liked that phone better. The Moto E5 Play just doesn't seem quite as nice. It might just be in my head, but the screen doesn't seem as sharp, the camera doesn't seem quite as good and the phone is ever so laggy, just a tad at times. I don't have the E4 to compare them side by side. I do know the E4 felt perfect in my hands and the E5 Play is just a tad bigger and doesn't feel quite as good. I was surprised that my ZTE Blade Spark (which I paid $40 "refurnished" for from ATT) has a MUCH nicer screen, and a MUCH better camera. I'm really disappointed in the camera. For $30, no complaints, but I feel bad for the people that paid over $100 for one.
