The model for this phone is XT1921-2. The clearest, most concise spec listing I can find is at the Republic Wireless site: https://help.republicwireless.com...Tech-Specs

This phone should be bootloader unlockable and rootable, per XDA:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/...m-t3820901
https://forum.xda-developers.com/...d-t3856182

LTE bands supported: 1,2,3,4,5,8,12,14,17,30,66

Clearly, it works fully with AT&T, Cricket, and other AT&T MVNOs. As long as you do not power on the phone with included SIM, it should activate just fine on any AT&T MVNO.

This lacks band 13 - which is Verizon's 4G LTE backbone - so it almost certainly will not work with Verizon or Verizon MVNOs.

This lacks bands 25, 26, and 41, so it almost certainly will not work with Sprint.

It does have main TMO LTE bands (2,4,12), so it should technically work with TMO or a TMO MVNO, but activation outside of AT&T or an AT&T MVNO will almost certainly require 6 months of AT&T service before it can be unlocked for that purpose. Still, if you have TMO and pick up this phone, please try and let us all know!

Same price in stores.

Won't hurt to try. Probably a "no go" though. Gotta believe they have mechanisms to check. I know Cricket does.

I had the moto E4, after about a year of low intensity use. It boot looped for a day on its own while I was at work. The battery bulged nearly twice its size. Threw it away, and bought a 845 snapdragon-powered pocophone f1 on aliexpress for $260 with free shipping. Unlocked the phone and put Lineage OS with literally zero bloatware.

Only downside was I couldn't find a good tempered glass protector, so i went with a RingKe self healing plastic protector.

I believe it doesnt support that many bands in the US. But I use it 90% for texting and browsing the web on WiFi.

What if I buy the phone and it doesn't have the apps I need in the play store? Can I return to Best Buy for full refund even though box is open?
ETA: (Messaged them and I have 15 days to return for full refund even if opened)

Anyone that owns the phone now know if these apps are available in the Play Store? Thanks.

If it doesnt have the apps, you download them from the Playstore.
Also no restocking fee for returns?

This will be a good starter smartphone for my mom (she's still rocking an AT&T prepaid flip phone). Thanks, OP. Repped.

Updated the Wiki. This model is the XT1921-2.

Short version:
  1. It will work with AT&T or an AT&T MVNO (such as Cricket) out of the box as long as you don't turn it on with the included SIM installed.
  2. It can technically work with TMO, but you may not be able to activate without 6 months of AT&T service.
  3. It almost certainly will not work with Verizon or Sprint, as it lacks the major LTE bands those carriers use.
  4. It should be bootloader unlockable and rootable, per XDA.

You need to use it for 6 months without taking it out.

Totally guessing here - but probably not , you'd need a more powerful phone than that Frown .. I totally hear you , gaming for kids can quickly add up ! Smilie .. and yet (not to be male chauvinist or anything I have a daughter who is definitely a gamer too Smilie ) I know that online video gaming is a way of "bonding" for boys with their friends for sure - my son often gamed online and talked with his buddies while doing so - basically you can definitely expect your son to keep bugging you for a gaming PC Stick Out Tongue ... no judgment here at all that goes without saying, it's totally up to each individual parent whether or not they want to indulge their kid that way but he WILL keep bugging you for this , from my experience anyways Stick Out Tongue ... that and kids really don't know how the whole money thing works and how hard mom and dad (or just mom or just dad in a one parent household) work to pay the bills..

Crap this is a long wall of text sorry about that Frown ... one thing I cannot emphasize enough.. do not, do not, do NOT buy a pre-built computer , you will save a TON of money (especially with upcoming Black Friday sales) if you go to say newegg or tiger direct and buy a "bundle of PC parts" online , with a decent video card (google "budget video cards" and look for one within your budget) ... there are a bunch of youtube videos that will show you how to build your own PC even if you've never done this before, it's a huge time consuming pain in the butt but when you compare that to the at least 200 percent markup/profit PC sellers make , even factoring in the cost of a monitor (does NOT have to be a gaming monitor, and , again, Black Friday sale will help here with the price) ... still a lot cheaper than buying it pre made.

Apologies to everyone here including OP (thanks for posting that OP great deal Smilie ) for a long winded wall of text that in no way, shape or form applies to the original topic Stick Out Tongue ..

Miss good old days $5-10 phones, free att unlock or cheap ebay codes. https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/frown.gif
Used to get unlock code from ATT by choosing "not ATT customer" option in their unlocking request. No go anymore?
