Verizon 128GB Samsung Galaxy Note 9 - $299.99 + $40 Activation Fee for Verizon New Customer or Existing Customer Add-On Lines @ Best Buy

For adding a new line on an existing account or for new Verizon customer lines only:
YMMV: AMEX $30 statement credit on $300+ Best Buy purchases (details)

- This is a one-time payment and you will fully own the device (no long-term contract or bill credits).
- Verizon plans are No-Contract. You may cancel service at anytime without early termination fee.
- Verizon now unlocks devices automatically after 60 days of activation on an active account (so you'd need to stay on with them at least 61 days to have it unlocked before it can be used on any other service).

That's correct if you select the monthly payment option Smilie If you choose to buy it outright upfront at $299.99 + $40 activation by choosing Activate Today on a new line / new account, there are no bill credits involved and you owe nothing more for the device (it's yours).

Unfortunately I don't have sufficient confidence that gUDP will be retained when doing an upgrade - and the "Activate Later" price remains a laughable $1K.
A Verizon rep told me I'd lose gUDP unless I paid full price.

Of course, part of the fun is you talk to three different people and get three different answers.

If You are paying $50 for the UDP rather than the usual $30 and not in a contract, You should be ok to upgrade.
You can also google for more information.
Thank You.

Thank YOU. It's the "should be" that worries me Wink

Anybody know if these are shipping with Oreo or Pie these days?

I believe the Note9 launched with Oreo but I recently got a Samsung Unlocked Note9 and it already had Pie. Don't know if that had to do with it being Samsung Unlocked or if everything in the channel at this point (including Best Buy/Verizon models) already has Pie pre-installed.

The way it would work is you'd pay for the first two months (say the $60 plan, so 2x $60 = $120), then port the number out on day 61 (which automatically closes the line/account). You'd only owe and get a bill for a prorated amount of that third month (meaning 1 day in this example).

In the end, $299.99 + $40 activation fee + $120 (plan cost for two months) = roughly $ 459.99‬ for a brand new (unlocked after 60 days) Note 9 plus getting two months of service on Verizon. This example doesn't factor in tax.

If you're planning to join Verizon and stay or needed to add a line to your existing account, you'd already be paying the plan cost every month anyway; no matter what phone you had active on the line. Therefore - in this deal - you're simply paying $339.99 (+ tax) for a brand new Note 9 to use on your line (which will unlock after two months of being active on your account, a nice perk even if you're not leaving Verizon).

I've had many verizon phones and they've all come sim unlocked from day one. So I question the theory of needing to wait out 60 days for getting the phone unlocked. But I do wonder if there's any catch in getting this phone at $299 + 40 activation and then canceling the line within 3 days. Would this get you the $40 refunded? And would there be any Early termination fee?
